Cb help...

Looking at running a Cobra 75 wxst on my 2 door rubi. Wanting to place the antenna between the tailgate and spare tire. Should I run a firestik antenna? And if so, what length? 4ft or 5ft? Thank you.

For trails only? 3'. All around use 4-5'. I have a Firestik and like it. Make sure it's on a spring.

Sounds good. Does anyone else that has their antenna mounted on the spare tire carrier have issues with the antenna flexing and hitting the hardtop?

I have the best mounting solution for a CB on a Wrangler. Does not hit the hardtop.

If you put a spring on it, its going to hit and drive you crazy. Skip the spring and get a 48" antenna.

DIY 3'ft firestick. Yes it hits the rear window wiper on rough trails.

Make sure you ground your antenna properly. This caused me problems for a few days.

@lolpetewtf That looks like the Arizona Rocky Road ARIZONA ROCKY ROAD ANTENNA MOUNTS FOR JEEP WRANGLER, UNLIMITED AND LIBERTY mount which I agree is the best one. It was a bit too tall for me and my garage. Mine is mounted at the base of my spare tire carrier (there is a picture of it on this thread Remove Sub Box to Ground and Run Antenna Coax - 2DR 2012). My 3' FireStik FireFly hits my garage door by about an inch every day. It doesn't hit my hardtop on the swing back. If you mount yours on the back of the 3rd break light you might have clearance issues with the hard top wiper blade.

There are different types of FireStik. The one you want for a Jeep is the "FireFly" model. (The other models are like broomsticks). It will have FL in the product code. It is stiff and keeps straight at highway speed. It will bend 90 degrees under tension. It will not need a spring. They come in 3' and 4'. You will get more range from the 4', but 3' is good for trail use. After tuning with a SWR meter (or having someone do it at a truck stop) you will want to spray some hairspray in the cap to keep it from coming off when rubbing under something.

You can also mount it on the front side of the license plate holder with a $13 mount and a 3' firestik clears the top by only a few inches. It makes running the coax easier, too. Reception is fine for the trail and running with a group; not so much for long distances.

I'd recommend just getting the quick disconnect

Sure is Rooster.

I have had it on a spring the entire time and I do not recall it ever hitting the hardtop.

I regretted the spring about 1 minute into being on gravel. It swayed and hit so much it was ridiculous. It lasted that one trip and it was off.
