Any ideas I want it as least "in the way" as possible and was considering an over head console
I installed mine on the left side next to my right leg, angled toward my head and up far enough so I can move my seat up to reach in the back. I suspected and did find that the speaker was inadequate especially since my right leg sort of covered it up so I went to the local truck stop and found a real nifty little square cb speaker and mounted it on top of the dash next to the tweeter on the left side. I really like that set up. I should take pictures so I can post.
I installed my Uniden 520 on the passenger side of the console. Similar to this pic only on the passenger side.
I tried that mount. It works, but it restricts the movement of the seat, so you can't bring it all the way forward. I had it on the driver's side and it bothered me when I went to clean and couldn't getthe seat all the way forward without crashing the seat against the CB. Since the consols is plastic, I figured over time it sould crack. I finally went with a Cobra 75.
Yep, but I don't have a back seat in the jeep and very rarely have a passenger, so it worked for me. This mount does interfere with the seat sliding all the way forward so if you need access to the back seat (2 dr) you'd be better off going another direction.

i followed this CB install on my 2007. it uses the trim above the mirror. total cost $ 0.00. the unidin is a small radio and fits nicely with no problem. larger full size radios probably need the extended bracket. if you don't think the cord dangeling will bother you, beats shelling out for a console. has good instruction. minor differences are found between the trim between the 2007 and 2012 but will probably still work. i havent gotten a new cb yet, it went with the trade.
