CB Radio problem

I'm currently having a problem with my CB radio, I can't hear anything but static and I think I'm getting interference from my brake lights, because stepping on the brakes makes the radio make this really annoying static/thumping sound.

I used to have my antenna mounted to the front left A pillar, with the radio fixed to the tongue above the rearview mirror. It was a temporary thing until I got light mounting brackets. I had used a 6' cable this time.

Now I've moved the antenna to the stock tire carrier using this http://http://www.homedepot.com/Buil...1#.UDRytkKRNFI
Home Depot item as a mount and using an 18' cable with the radio mounted in the same place.

I thought maybe it was the RadioShack cable I got. So I picked one up from Frys and still the same problem. I thought it was the metal homedepot bracket I used. Taking the antenna off completely and holding it at the front of the jeep still having the same problem. I'm now thinking the radio might not have enough power to run a 18' cable on it? Or I'm just not sure? Anyone have any ideas?
