Cell phone Dock / Mount

I have a 2011 Unlimited and need a sturdy cell phone mount/charger for an HTC Evo. The one's that plug directly into the power outlet are appealing but not a must. Just curious what others are using.

Thanks!

I've got the Evo, and have worked out a perfectly good setup for myself. I'll take some pictures tomorrow in the daylight. To describe it though, i've got a solid (as in not flexible neck) window suction mount, as low as it can go without cutting a hole in the top of the dash. It sits up there in landscape mode, basically right on top of the stereo.

For power i've got a retractable cord I just leave plugged into the 12v, and pull the plug out when i'm setting up the phone. All the rest of the time it stays retracted into the plug part, which was a big plus for me, I didnt want wire flapping around all over the place. Even when it's plugged in, you can retract it until it's almost taut, so the wire never gets in my way.

I got the Sprint EVO as well.....wanna know what I did? I went to Lowes and bought a pack of Heavy Duty 2" circular "Hook and Loop" (Velcro).

Steadily placed the "Hook" circle on the center console LEFT SIDE CIRCULAR VENT. Guess where I placed the soft fuzzy "Loop"? Yup, to the back of my Sprint EVO cell phone case, about 1/4 inch below the camera lens.

If you are not using the velcro "mount", simply flip the heater vent 180 degrees and the velcro "cell phone mod" is hidden.

Soon as I jump in, it takes about 3 seconds or less to "mount".

$2.89 with military discount.

I was looking at mounts that used the vent but was not sure it would be secure enough. Can you post a picture of your setup? Thanks for the reply!

Well, not exactly sure how to post pics in a thread, so we'll see how this works.

Edit: well, it's not going to let me make comments next to each pic, so, if you have any questions just ask, it's pretty self explanatory whats going on i'd guess.

ThrashN, Do you have a picture of the installed mounting bracket? Curious how you screwed it into the dash? Thanks!

I can get you a pic tonight.
The bracket mounts using the radio screws. You have to take the front panel off, unscrew the radio, put the bracket on and put it all back together.
Here's a pic from quadratec

Just an FYI, there was a thread a few years back about a JK catching fire in the owner's garage. It was narrowed down to the phone charger that was plugged into the "always on" or battery 12v outlet. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the fault of the JK but most likely the phone charger. I'd suggest unplugging it when not in use or (at the very least) moving it to the "ignition" 12v outlet.

Well, my JK came stock with an Iphone holder. Four of them in fact. Each is tilt and angle adjustable and in just the right place for viewing. Fits snug, even with accessory and charge cables attached.

WHAT! haha...are you kidding me? So theres like...19 different ways my vehicle can catch on fire?

Man, thanks for the heads up...I had no idea there was a difference between the plugs. Dammit, I think daggo might be right about reading the entire freaking owners manual.

I use this as well. Love it! I have a HTC Incredible and use it mostly for GPS/Navigation purpose. Works great.

Does anyone know if this bracket will work on a 2012? The quadratec site only lists compatibility up to 2010 and the Bracket's website lists it only up to 2008.

Go to www.Proclipusa.com I believe this is where quadratec gets theirs. Proclipusa has an updated one for the the 11s and 12s with out navigation. its actually closer to the driver.

Yes but that one is double the price.

That one would not work with the 11+. Completely different interior design.

I use the proclip mount. Solid, and puts the phone exactly where I want it.

I use thew Proclip too. My Droid 2 Global has the slide out keyboard and I mount it horizontally and love it.

Had the Bracketron on my 2007. It looks more professionally installed but id too far away.

I use nothing! I stick it in the tray on the dash. I have Uconnect and the controls on my steering wheel. Besides if I had it mounted I'd be tempted to check my emails, text, and surf this forum while driving.

With the phone charger also, that looks nice, I need one for my iphone too, I know you said it came w/ your jeep any idea who makes it or where I can get one?
Thanks in advance for the help

That is what I had till someone told me it is in the way of the airbag. Think about it, if the airbag deploys that is not going to survive and might cause more harm to you and your passenger!

Hi, This isn't a solution for the budget conscious, but it's my next Jeep purchase.

JK Grab Bar | Carolina Metal Masters

I'm a big fan of the RAM mount stuff, and have all the parts already. This grab bar will allow me to mount a phone, or even my iPad with the TomTom running.

The small space just below the parking great is perfect for a cell phone.

I was taping it off here to add a quick layer of plasti-dip so that the rear of the cell phone would not rest against hard plastic.

I have a USB cable snaked out of the armrest that I use to charge it while driving.
