Change Stock Oil?

Hey all,

Purchased my '12 JK Arctic 10 days ago. I only have 645 miles on the readout. Has anyone changed their oil after purchase to rid the engine of the stock oil, or is there no need to do this?

Thanks.

Changed out my filter at 500 to check it out
Changed first oil at 3k
Second oil change at 6k -switched to synthetic
Now on a 6k sched

You will get many different opinions on oil changes at first and as a regular sched.
It's one of those topics.

Just did mine at 350 miles

Will do another at 1000. Then 1500. The full synthetic, Amsoil, Maxium.

Think Amsoil is good for about 10k miles?

Why at 350, 1000, and 1500? Or are you adding that to the 350?

We did ours at 400 and we will do another this week a little over 1000, just the way I've always broke in a engine.

This is one of those things that a lot of good well-meaning folks have some very adamant opinions about. Here is the way I look at it. I very simplistically ask the question "Who has the most vested interest in my Wrangler's engine?" In other words, for the quite long and liberal warranty period, who is going to pay for it if something internally lubricated fails? The answer obviously is Chrysler. So why would I try to outsmart the guys who just want to keep my engine running?

I follow the Owner's Manual and use the option for full synthetic oil.

Discussed at length there. No need to stir this pot again. Haha.

Sparkplugg,

You are absolutely right and this should be the Amen until a new lubricant is invented...in reality the discussion will go ad nauseam infinitum.

I will do my usual first oil/filter change on a new vehicle at 1000 miles and then every six months as I don't put that many miles on. First change at six months will be at the dealer (free) and six months later I will switch to synthetic.

Think Amsoil is good for about 10k miles?
Amsoil XL is good for at least 10K miles and the Signature Series even longer. But I would still send a few samples in for analysis before I went to drain intervals that long.

Haha. Oh really? 15K is WAYYY too long to go without changing. I'm used to changing every 5k.

My 2012 wrangler makes an annoying ticking sound. If I change to synthetic, will it stop? Can I just change the oil and put synthetic or is there a different process

I have heard of loose lifters in the Pentastar. Must have been assembled after lunch.
