I changed my oil today as well. Even less eventful than yours as there was no 20 something neighbor's daughter involved. My dog tried to help though. He has no thumbs so he turned out to be no help at all.

Others can hate all they want.. I enjoy changing my oil... Probably not something I would start a thread over but nonetheless.

I live pretty much out in the country... The closest mailbox REALLY does say McCoy... That's not even a joke. Boss's last name... Hatfield... Couldn't make this up if I tried... Closest neighbor would have to DRIVE over to help me... Not that the old hermit would want to... On the flip side, my work is constantly flooded with all the sorority girls from the UofAR campus... But for whatever reason, the boss wouldn't go for my idea to moving the yoga mats to the bottom shelf across from the counter.....

This thread has all the major plot points a Hollywood movie would kill for: Off-road vehicles, uber-friendly 20-something chicks and crotch licking dogs without thumbs.

What's NOT to like?

I changed my oil last week as I couldn't stand it any more and just had to do it. 4500 miles on her and only about a third of a quart low. Used the motorcraft oversized oil filter and since walmart didn't have enough 5w20 mobil one I just bought motorcraft syn blend oil as well. Also change the front and rear axle oil and it did look yucky. Went with the full syn valvoline 85-140W as I may never tow with this jeep as I use it mainly for high speed highway driving in very hot condictions, which can last for hundreds of miles of non stop at high speeds. Changed the trany oil at 1500 miles as I installed a oversized aluminum finned cooling pan, again for sustained high speed driving in 100+ degree temps. took the skid bar off for the install, then reinstalled it as it did clear the bigger pan with plenty of room. God I love my skid bar, and wouldn't pat with her for nothing. I am good now till 10,000 miles and I don't even plan to open the hood again till then. Happy jeeping, and goodnite!

Question - lots of threads about oil, but what about filters? I changed to synth and prefer K&N filters. Plan on changing oil again in 8000 -10,000 miles. What filter can hold up to the less frequent oil changes that synth oil can provide?

(Barrie and 1222 may also respond as I KNOW you're watching this thread intently)

Just because you can go longer between oil changes donít neglect the rest of your Jeep. What I mean by that is every once in a while you should ďopen the hoodĒ to look things over and that includes the rest of your Jeep too. You never know if or when something is starting to go wrong including oil consumption. Donít assume.

Donít know for a fact but I would say just stick with the filter youíre with now or any of the major players in the oil/filter arena.

Don't forget the test drive after an oil change. Very important. I always do this after I change my oil.

^^^Curious, why the test-drive. Isnít just starting it up after the change and then re-check the level along with a visual to check for leaks fine?

Yes. Probably sufficient. But I like to drive it and check all my gauges after I do anything under the hood. I usually drive it until the temp comes up to normal and listen and watch the gauges. When I get back, I recheck everything (fluid levels, oil filler cap on tight, no leaks around filter).

Thanks, was just curious. You go beyond the norm and that’s a good thing. Your Jeep is lucky to have an owner like you.

glad i could give you guy's a, i was gonna start a thread about my wife's car that i HAD TO TAKE TO jiffy lube in the dead of winter because there was to much snow on the ground and the tech left me with a oval drain plug. but i can only imagine how that post would have went.....mmmm let me think a minute.

20 members would have told me how to kill\dismember the jiffy lube tech.
32 members would have told me how to change the oil.
104 members would have told me how to get the drain plug out.
69 members would have told me what oil and filter to use.
barrie would have closed the thread..

another shot at being funny

...and at least one member (I won't mention mgaspard's name) would have inquired about your neighbors daughter - yet again.

There is this Italian guy down the street . He told me he changed his oil. I said your hair looks fabulous. He smiled and slapped my face and said thankyou.
