changes to 2010 Wrangler

does anybody know what the changes will be from the 2009 to 2010 wrangler?

i heard that Jeep will be coming out with a 4 door electric version of the Wrangler. I am not interested in this. I'm more interested in a 2 door, probably sahara or rubicon. so basically i'm just wondering what additions/changes will occur between this year's and next year's models

what's "tracks"???
and what exactly would a roll over button accomplish? doesn't the wrangler already have stability control?

Electric wrangler would be awesome. I'd love to make all my torque at 1rpm and hold it up to 10,000rpm's. It'd be like having a giant winch as your motor.

the only problem is that the electric wrangler is supposedly only going to be offered in a rear wheel drive version

tank tracks, and a button to push if you roll over, it will right the jeep.

(sarcasm if it wasn't obvious)

To strart with, but the plan is to eventually have 4 separate electric traction motors, one in each wheel, that can be controlled by the computer so there is max traction and max torque on every wheel all the time. Could be very cool.

yeah i was reading about that...apparently today's transmissions only use about 30% of the energy that the engine produces. in-wheel motors would utilize almost all of the energy. the only problem is that the developers of this technology are having trouble getting all 4 motors to synchronize correctly. as you may imagine, if even one motor is off by a fraction of a second, the entire vehicle could lose control...nevertheless, very cool technology

Let's see, half way through the woods, axle deep in mud, the charge runs out. Hmmm, where is that damn charger, I know I put it in the jeep somewhere, oh sh*@ there is no outlet around here? Hey, I brought my jumper cables, says to passenger: hey could you get up on those high tension wires over there and see if we can get this vehicle charged back up? Wow, just imagine the possibilities.

Yeah... Running out of gas sucks. My advise would be to watch that little gauge that tells you when that tank runs out. The difference here is that you can 'refill' it from an outlet at home rather then going out of your way to pump dead dino from a hole someone dug off the side of the highway.

Granted, there are kinks to work out, but electric is the best way to go. Instead of compromising between economy/performance we get both. The more efficent the motor, the less energy it uses and the more power it makes.

Just my .02 worth.
Someone else can have the soapbox back now

a feasable electric wheeler wont be here anytime soon, not untill battery technogoly gets better. and the downside of all that torque is making the drivetrain strong enough to handle it especally when wheeling.

the difference between electric and gas is when you forget to watch that gauge with the little e and f and your jeep (gas or electric) dies you can just get out of the gas jeep go the the back of your jeep or your buddies jeep and get the gas can that you brought with you dump it in and its like magic your engine starts again. or with the e vehical you get to leave it and come back with new batteries or a generator and a few hours to wait untill your batteries are charged agian. ill keep my dead dinos thank you very much

Thanks Badfish, I figured that the "electric car" guys would get that but they just went on and on about the green thing. Gee, I wonder if they will make a jerry can that packs a bunch of electrons that will get you out of the woods? Then they can call it a jeep?

electric sounds great untill you actually look at what it takes to function properly with an electric vehical. if battery tech gets better better by huge leaps and bounds and i mean huge like a new battery type that we can make right here in the good old USA not from chemicals we have to beg the chineese for or die in the Republic of Congo to get. there is a reason that the internal combustion engine has been on top for well over a hundred years and will be for years to come. electric is great and all but only as a novelty right now there really is no good practical application yet, but when that jerry can full of elections shows up we are all set right?

The jeep dealer told me last week that there will be no changes to the 2010 Wrangler other than a new color and dropping one of the current colors.

The electric Wrangler looks pretty much like a typical '07-'09 JK Unlimited. But the Jeep EV Range-extended Electric Vehicle uses an electric motor, an advanced lithium-ion battery system, and a small gasoline engine with an integrated electric generator to produce additional energy to power the electric-drive system when needed.

I work in the body shop for the JK Wrangler here in Toledo.

The electric engine program was killed with the new Fiat management group. It's not happening anytime soon.

However we have scheduled overtime for April/May/June to bust out the Diesel engines before the model year rollover ( 2011 ).

Makes sense.....It would take one hell of an extension cord to recharge it otherwise. AAA doesn't respond off-road.

What do you hear about a new V6 & transmission for the JK in 2011? Anything?
