Cheap 16" or 17" Wheels

I am looking to replace my tires on my 2012 Sahara JKU. I am thinking about going with 16" or 17" wheels to lessen the price of the tires, and selling my 18" stock wheels.

Any recommendations on cheap wheels? I would like to spend ~$100/wheel.

Thanks!

If you where close by and wanted to stick with stock size tires I have a set of Rubi X take offs I would give you are good deal on.

After pricing about every combination, I found basic 15" alloy wheels w/33x12.5x15 tires the "best bang for the buck" of what I was looking for.

I have a set on order from DT. I went the Black Diamond 909b ($115 ea) (but u can save a few bucks by going Level 8's). And I went w/General Grabber AT2 tires ($163 ea).

I found I could go a bigger tire for a 15" wheel. There is also a nice weight savings. I won't need a carrier for the spare.

I was going to paint my 16" stock steeleies. But saved enough by dropping to a 15" wheel to justify just going for it. And I love the look of small wheel big tire.

Should have them by end of next week.

Take off's are a great option. But in my area they go for about a grand and go quickly. So I gave up and just ordered.

15 inch wheels are problematic, some fit some don't. And it leaves no room at all for going with a big brake kits.

Not sure about "problematic". Like any other size rim, you got to decide what you want and don't want. There are several that "fit" just fine. In fact, I went with the one's I did as I preferred the BS of the wheel over the BS of the DT "brand". Tho in reality will be half an inch difference. Point being, there was enough of options in style and BS options, I could get a little picky.

Point taken on big brake kits. Tho every wheel/tire combo has positives and minuses.

But the OP was looking for value. Which is one reason I dropped to a 15" wheel. The same tire on a 15" wheel is less than on a 17" wheel. And one advantage (especially if going with alloy) is you save some rim weight. My new set of 15" alloy w/33x12.5x15's will not be much heavier than my stock 16" steelies and 29" tires.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I am going to steer clear of take-offs, since I was a smaller backspacing.

Are there any negatives to going with a steel rim?
