Cheap Jeep Mod

OK maybe not a real mod, but purchased a "Recovery Strap" 20ft with Hooks & Keepers, 3000 lb tinsel for $12.00 @ Harbor Freight with the 20% off coupon in Sundays Paper. Fits in the storage area just fine!

Hate to burst your bubble but that strap is dangerous!!!

Maybe you can return it for refund and put toward a proper recovery strap.

That strap would be okay for a atv not a jeep, ever.

Recovery straps?

I disabled my seatbelt alarm ( )

What if I just use scissors and cut my seat belts off and use those

You can use that tow strap for towing. thats not a recovery strap. a recovery strap has loops on either end for pulling stuck hummers out. recovery straps have a elastic quality that aids in recoveries.

You want something more like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-02963-V...3736414&sr=8-4

Some would say you don't need one that strong. But that's just a quick example I hauled off Amazon. They come in 15K, 20K, etc.

You don't want em with the metal hooks.

i would hate to be on the receiving end of your snapped tow strap and hit by the metal end. pretty sure it will just go through a windshield.

No problem. And don't take the sudden wave of naysaying personally.

I think a lot of folks just jumped in the second they read "recovery strap" and "hook". I know I did. That could be a lethal combo.

Even with a good tow strap like the one I linked you, it'd be wise to read up on proper usage before hauling any Hummers outta ditches. Even hauling somebody's VW Beetle out of a snowbank, you have to know how and where to hook em up. Also be aware of the potential for liability in such cases.

On the other hand, it's a damn good investment to carry in your Jeep if you wheel at all...or even if you don't.

Hey NYC. Read through these threads...you'll have a much better understanding of the differences between tow and recovery straps, and some usage pitfalls to avoid.

recommendation for recovery straps
Tow hooks?

what is the difference in the 14" billet style antenna vs the 13" off road style? just looking at them on the site, the offroad looks thicker. thanks for the help, putting in an order soon. great stocking stuffer! also picking up a 14" for my 2009 mustang!
