This has probably been suggested before, but it would have been a nice feature for Jeep to have put one of those bungee net mesh pockets (like on the inside of the newer models' doors) along the inside of the rear gate. There's a nice bit of space back there, and another longer net pocket would have been sweet for extra gear.

Anyone have any cheap mods to this effect?

Great idea, btw. I'd hate to buy the bag mount for the swing gate, I'd kill for a cheap mesh mod like the one you mentioned.

I needed a driver's side mirror for when i have my doors off and didn't want to pay $40-$60+ for a mirror so I made my own for $22.

The mirror was $9.29 from advanced auto parts and the rest of the parts (1/2" electrical metal tube EMT conduit, 2.5" 5/16" bolt, washers, rubber washers, wing nut and plastic cap) are from Lowes.

I cut 13" of the electric conduit, then placed the last 2" of it in a vice and flattened it. Then bent it to the desired angle. Rounded off the edges of the flattened end with a file to give it a nice rounded edge and drilled a hole in the center of the flattened end. Finished it off with several coats of plasti-dip and plastic cap on the top end of the tube. The mirror just clamps directly on the tube.

For installation on the Jeep I placed a metal washer, then rubber washer on the bolt, put the bolt through the hole on the flattened end of the tube, then another rubber washer followed by a metal washer, then through the door hinge and finished up with another metal washer and the wing nut on the bottom of the door hinge for easy installation and removal.

It is surprisingly stable even at highway speeds of 65 mph.

Talking Couple of mods for going doorless

I did a post on how I made this one here--> http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/35-...od-160277.html ($35 = 2 mirrors)

To stop the seatbelt flap
I got a couple seatbelt comforters at Wall-Mart (made by Custom Accessories) that you put around the belt down by were it feeds out. It's about 8" long and works great. It stays right in place and lets the belt feed good. I got one at Auto zone that didn't let the belt feed back in, so I returned it.

A couple other options that I have heard of (but have not used) is to put a twist in the belt. Another option on pre 11's is that you can run it behind some of the plastic on the b-pillar.

I replaced my Clevis pins with JKS quick discos because of the play. It was quite noticeable while driving.

the play is from wobble where the bolt hole on the axle side is larger than 7/16s did the jks tighten up enough that the wobble is gone.

The JKSs replace the whole link and connectors plus, since I did a lift as well, they are height adjustable.

Have a look

This is my first Jeep, I got it about 3 weeks ago. Took Hard top off and doors off yesterday and that flapping over 40mph drove me nuts. So after work today stopped at Orielys, and for $4 each I bought 2 of the neoprene ones and put them there and worked great. No flapping anymore at any speed and seat belts feed through them like their not even on there.

Definitely doing a few other mods in this thread. Was looking the the grill inserts online and the DIY mod never even crossed my mind. Probably going to get supplies tomorrow. Along with mirror flip. Then working on a mirror for when doors are off. Cant stand not having side mirrors.

i was damn impressed when i did it. the one on the a pillar has an extra layer of build up tape on the lower side to help with the angle and the vent mirror is mimicked on the other side. 8 bucks for all three and they work. GA only requires one mirror.

Well while out enjoying the beautiful day with the wife having doors and top off I flipped the mirror and was pretty impressed with the amount of extra visibility it made. While out we stopped by the Harley shop and picked up a pair of mirrors for $20 each and fit perfect in the hinges. Then stopped by Harbor Freight and grabbed a few mini D-rings to make me some Paracord grab handles. If I like them Ill go back and get D-rings to make a pair for the rear also.

Just finished my grill mod. Bought wire mesh from Home Depot and plasti-dipped it. Cut it to shape. I'll post pictures after I put it on in the morning (work can wait the <5 min it takes to put the grill back on). Ha, next for me is DEFINITELY the wooden piece over the trunk. Lots of wandering eyes in Philly; I don't like leaving my top down around town with an open trunk.
