Possibly a new cheap mod? I posted this last week, but it was suggested I mention it in this thread. I initially titled it a cargo hammock, but the main part of it is really adding cargo tie-down loops to the 6 hardtop bolts, to give you a lot more tie-down options in the cargo area.

I agree that kids do stupid stuff - and we as a society make too many stupid decisions to keep kids safely wrapped up in bubble wrap until they're 25 - but I suppose most SUVs don't have an inside hatch latch because it's largely unnecessary (but definitely cool).

If they were useful in more situations by more people, and in demand - the manufacturers might add them, and simply add the same child-safety lock on/off switch that been installed on just about every single car sold in this country in the last 30 years that has back doors.

Hatch release unsafe for children??? What is a kid doing unsecured in the back cargo area of a moving vehicle? Seems like reasonable natural selection to me.

Anyways, here's a cheap mod that I like...smooth pipe insulation pieces to fill gap between front seats and console. Kind of a coin/french fry saver. They move with the seats too. Also put smaller sized of same stuff along dash by windshield to keep crap from falling into that super-void.

I'm doing this now-and I get the parts at 10% over cost. I'll look into what I can do for other members here on pricing-theyre easy to get form a facing pdc-prob 10 over plus shipping or something close....

Wife has complained several times that my wrangler does not have a mirror. Found a cheap clip on mirror at harbor freight for 3.99.

I like this. What the hell with that void, other cars have had it, but....My damn cell phone always seems to fall right in there flawlessly in the Jeep since day 1. Has happened almost every other day, and I can't get to it until I stop or park!

Looks great SEADOG. Better than the $160 inserts in the catalogs. Right on time too, going to have my grille off to install a B&M Supercooler and I plan to do your grille thing while it's off. And Whats up with the bent metal on the upper part of the XHD bumper fairlead mount?? Mine has the same bend in the same place. The same drunk Chinaman must have done both our bumpers.

I built my own "insta-trunk" with some leftover diamond tread aluminum sheet and scrap 3/4" square tubing. Makes a great place to put the ice chests when wheelin. and keeps the small stuff secured when off camber, and its stout enough to stand on!

3 cheap, easy mods. 2012 JK

Did 3 cheap, easy modifications this morning.
The first was door edge guards. $4.97 at Autozone, 10 minutes. I think Ill get a another pack and finish it all the way to the hinge.
The second was painting the muffler. I just couldnt understand why Jeep left that large, silver can hanging out there when everything else visible is black? Cost was $5 at Ace Hardware for the Valspar High-temp grill paint. Time was 20 minutes, including scrubbing the muffler with steel wool.
The third was a seat organizer. I seldom have a passenger, the rear seat is in the garage under a tarp, so I installed this organizer on the front seat. Just clips in place at the headrest. I put a shock cord through the bottom loops and around the seat to keep it from sailing when the top is off. Cost was $8 from some place on E-Bay a few years ago. It's a transplant from a couple Patriots I owned. Time was 5 minutes.

Velcro from Lowes - 1" wide roll about $23 - many uses - one is holds seat belts from making that flapping noise.

See you made it over here! Never thought about painting the muffler....

Here you go...

Be sure to read down to post #42 as he corrects some of the dimensions. I did this out of some 1/4" bar stock, so not as thick as his recommended 3/8. It did recline the seats back a little bit so it is more comfortable sitting in the back for long periods of time.

I also did this mod to fix the middle seat as I occasionally have three people in the back. Still amazed that Jeep did not put any support for the middle seat. If they did not intend it to be used then why have the middle seat belt?

I'll post as soon as I get the nerve to take the cut-off wheel to it. What's the worst that could happen? Just get a new bumper I guess

You'll be fine. I think if you search for a post by MTH he posted his write up, super simple. I just am waiting to get mine, I just ordered the VDP one instead. But it's the same concept. Chalk your line, saw, and self tap screw the cap on.

For your sawzall blade I would recommend about an 8 inch blade. Make sure not hit your tires and take your time cutting. No rush.

Somebody on one of the forums "welded" his plastic bumper. Don't know how, but he left some extra after he stubbied it and then used heat to reshape it to look like a stock bumper shape again. It was bad ass.
