Cheapest build thread ever!

This is probably the cheapest jeep build thread ever. I only spent hundreds of dollars to do all these mods. How was it so cheap? I did all the work myself. All of it. I bought only parts, and did all the work myself. You can save a lot of money on labor, that's for sure!

Everyone says "I learned so much about my jeep by doing it myself" on these builds threads. I can't say that, it would be a lie. I learned absolutely nothing about my jeep. It was a lot of fun, though.

Here she is bone stock. The wheels look a little small, don't they?

Everyone's first mod seems to be adding steps or rock sliders. I experimented with some flat steps, but they just didn't look as rugged as the tubular ones that I settled one:

After adding sliders, then the wheels really look too small. So like everyone, I went with "the combo", and went up to 33s. They look pretty good. But… are they still too small?

So then to get anything bigger, you need to do some kind of lift. Here's the lift installed, still waiting on new wheels+tires. I have no idea why I put the stock wheels back on instead of the 33's, but hey, this way you can see what's underneath:

So then the 35s come in, and it looks good. Here's the jeep side by side with what is probably an older, mostly stock TJ?

Here's a closeup of the front bumper, all custom. Thinking about adding a winch, but the cheapest winch I can find is huge, and will really mess with the size of the front bumper. Note that I swapped out the weak fog lights with some yellow/orange colored ones, they are much brighter and more effective than the stock white ones.

One of the best features is the freedom top. On a nice day, you just pop it off.

And of course, on really nice days, you take the whole roof off and everyone gets some sun. Notice that one of the kids doesn't like the top being off, he thinks it’s a little too windy. But apparently the other kid doesn't have any problem with the wind at all for some reason

The question, as always, is "how big can we go"? So far, the 35s seem to be good enough, but there's always the possibility that we might want to do some serious off-roading. I did find a supplier for some even larger wheels and tires that aren't too expensive, they're 56x26. They are a little hard to find, though, I've only been able to find 4, I haven't found a spare yet. And if I did, I don't think it would fit on the current bumper, that's for sure. And I'd have to completely redo the entire suspension. I'll leave that project for a future date!

What I'd really like to do is make this the same color as my real jeep, but I don't have a lot of pieces in commando green. There are some (mostly from TMNT sets) that are about the right color, but we don't have a lot of those. Here's a shot of my real baby, with sliders and the combo (and yellow fogs you can't see )

Go to a hobby store and buy some Model paint.....Clean your parts really good before ya spray em. You may be able to find a small spray cans that are a close match... "Model Master" by Testors....Shake em really good and warm em up a little...Do test shots to check the color shade.
Around here we have 5 grandkids, and Totes of Lego's . Ohhhh and I have over 300 plastic model kits that are waiting to be built.... LOL.... "BH"

apparently you don't buy a lot of legos.. . individual pieces probably only a few 10s of dollars there, but you don't get them piece by piece... $10 set here, $20 set there, $50 set there, it adds up quick. a lot of the pieces we have were from when i was a kid, some 30+ years ago. they were a lot cheaper then, when i wasn't paying for them!
