I've seen about three chief (the color not the special edition) pics and two gobi ones on the jeep site, but those are typically Photoshop and you cant tell much.
Chief with black fenders:
If you look here you can see that cheif is just photoshopped onto a prior pic depicting a red:
Gobi joins Mojave, Sahara, Anvil, and Commando in my list of "If they'd offered all of them the year I was ordering, I'da just had to buy 5 Jeeps" colors. Gobi may actually be my favorite all-time color, if it looks as good as the pictures. Makes me wish I hadn't sunk handfuls of Benjamins and days worth of time into my Anvil '14; I'd just trade it in.
Yeah I waited for it. My last wranger an 87 I shipped to Europe in 86 and was a sahara color. I do like the bright colors, but this go around, as a jeep already is attention getting I really felt for me, ehem, at my age, I wanted something more subdued.
I see you have a willys. I really prefer those all black gloss wheels. Second favorite after 75th all semi gloss black. But as I am getting a two door, some of the irrationalities in the pricing, specifically it costing me effectively $1,300 to get side airbags due to forcing up to WW-W made the base rubicon the most price rational for me.
the chief, in addition to being a color added to most or all trims, will eventually come in its own special edition as well, with a white stripe. Likely sahara based.
So that is why I am not getting chief, because that would invite more procrastination deciding whether to wait for the stripe -- of course by spring the JL will be sucking the air out of the room.
This is a pretty good year for colors. I really like both of these new colors.
Chief looks good enough to be in my list of Skittles favorites - Cosmos, Crush and Gecko... And Gobi can go in my favorite non-metallics - Anvil, Commando and Sahara Tan!
YEP!!!! I'd take either... In fact, timing might be good in a couple of years when I need to replace my work SUV. A Rubicon JK in either would do just fine.
FYI. Just got an email from Chrysler yesterday PM. First full Gobi paint runs are "projected" to be in two weeks or less. Person I contacted is same source that was accurate on ordering schedule back in September.
Unknown if factory orders will be on first normal runs, but this also corresponds with four week average between first test paints (Oct 21) and normal runs of a new color.
Also you should know if you kick the issue of "golden ticket" high enough in email correspondence you can get assurances that if you order with good lead time, in my case eight weeks, they will not expire your golden ticket if your order is delayed due to factory. At first I was told "five days grace." But I know have assurances that as my order was early Nov they will not expire my golden ticker even if some unforeseen circumstances caused it to be delivered at any time after expiration.
whomever gets a gobi first, best thing to do would be if possible to photograph it next to a mojave on dealer lot.
Probably a dumb question so be nice. Do y'all think Chief will become available in Willys? It isn't available on Jeep's website but is it something that can be ordered? I've seen that hyper green still hasn't been available in Willys throughout 2016/2017 so far either and so I wondered if that might change for Chief later in the year.
Nice, very nice! Saw an Oscar Mike edition (with soft top) in Gobi Desert at a local dealer. Looked great. The matte granite wheels and grill, and Olive Drab logos seem to work real well with the Gobi color. Love the 18" granite wheels.
