The only time I've herd mine was when I'm wheeling .. So I have a appointment sat to get the ps lines done and I told them the water pump was going out and the said they would check it..
I guess if they don't fix it I'll have to wait till it's doing it all the time or they recall it witch ever comes first...

Picked mine up tonight from getting the recall done and the water pump. I heard the water drop/moving noise as soon as I drove off the lot. Very disappointed they rushed and did not burped the system. I stopped to turn around but thought it would be a waste of time. I'll fix it myself. I've changed 4 water pumps and 2 radiators on 6 different times during my life and never had this issue. These guys getting paid good money working on $30K vehicles can't get it right....

Frustrating. Hopefully I won't hear the chirping anymore.

I have this chirping sound. I assumed it was a belt. Very intermittent. I will wait for it to be more consistent or fail before I take it in.

Finally found a dealership in AR that is worth my time. It helps to take the service ladies out for margaritas, by the way. Just sayin...

Only took a minute of a ride-along before the chirp came back, and they ordered the new pump immediately. Outpatient treatment when it arrived, too easy!

Put me on the list too I think. I was at work today when I had a guy come by and start talking with me. The Jeep was running and we both stopped mid conversation when it started chirping. So frustrated... I had a 2005 TJ that never had any issues and I traded it for this piece.

The dealer had known me for years at least, I hope I won't have issues. Tomorrow I guess I'll be stopping by to get it checked.

I have a list I'm working on since I use the Jeep for work and really can't go without it very long.

On the list - trans line recall, front right brake line rusting out, waterpump chirp, pass. rear tail light taking in water in the rain from the lens.

The dealer has the brake line waiting in my box already, I wrapped the trans line awhile back so not too worried there, but the other stuff hasn't been brought up yet.

Mine started chirping about 2200 miles - called dealer and he ordered without me even bringing it in. Back order... But now at 5300, chirp is gone, it seems to have stopped somewhere about 4,000 miles. Think I'll wait till it returns.

Question, do they have to remove grill to replace water pump? My winch is up so tight against grill, that it's a challenge getting to off. If yes, I'll take off before going to dealer for replacement.

Yeah, if the water pump completely grenades, you won't be able to pump water through the radiator and engine block, and your engine will overheat. (rather quickly). That can cause major damage, most likely a warped cylinder head or blown head gasket etc.

Well then I guess they better replace mine based off my video.

I figured he was just giving me lip service but to my surprise he just brought the original water pump into the waiting area for me to inspect. He said typically if it were an issue with casting sand left behind he would expect to see some abrasions on the impeller but wasn't seeing anything like that in this case. I guess we'll see if I'm back for another replacement in 10,000 miles or not.
At about 17,000 miles water pump number 2 is chirping. Its a bit more intermittent than the first was, so ill run it for a little while. I plan to make a pretty big stink when I go in for this replacement. I think this time ill be pretty insistent on a full system flush.

Mine does the squeal, and then does that chrip. No idea what either is, but sounded similar to what someone else posted earlier.

It was a pain because at first it didn't always make the noise, so took 4 trips to the dealer. One of the times they replaced the wrong part too, then figured it out.

I made a video of it (mostly for the sound).

Had the exact same issue on my 2012 JKUR. Dealer replaced the water pump under the warranty at about 14k miles and the issue was resolved.

2013 Jk with 36000Km, took to dealer yesterday to have the water pump replaced.

Sound got too loud and was very annoying.

Defiantly not a chirping noise. Sounds more like my power steering pump noise started after I had a new head installed due to the tick.

Now this was taken days before the head replacement. No whining noise.
But for sure tick.

This was taken early December on the trail you can hear the whining noise form a far, from the guys with a bad water pump did yours sound like this at any point?

Now the easy solution would be take it to the dealer but they charge me $150 bucks just to look at it. Yes it is under warranty 28K miles but the name stealership was given for a reason.

Has anyone here experienced service reps at your respective dealerships refusing to replace or repair the part because they cannot hear the sound? I have brought my 2013 JK Unlimited Sahara in twice because of this and both times they say they cannot replicate or hear it. I even had a video but they refused to even watch it. What should I even do in a situation like this? I'm considering taking all my service to a different dealer for the future.

As the bearing gets worse.....the sound will be more consistent. Once this happens, the dealer will try and address the issue. They often will start with the idler pulleys.....then when that fails they will concede that the water pump has failed.

You can wait for the sound to get more consistent (and it will get more consistent). I havent heard of any situations where it failed catastrophically. Im on my third water pump and the second one I ran chirping for almost 20,000 miles before getting it replaced. The other thing you could try is asking them to put a stethoscope on it to listen for noise. They should be able to hear it pretty easy. For mine, the best way to generate the noise was to drive on the highway for a little while and then let the jeep idle. The last time I had mine replaced, they dealership told me that there was a new part number for the water pump that superseded the old part number. The part number they have listed on my work order for the water pump is 68079412AC. Im not sure if its really a new part number or not. Hopefully the third water pump is the charm for my jeep!

Same on my 2014 JK 4Dr

Just got my 2104 JK back from the dealership, this time getting the water pump replaced. The first time I had the chirping fixed was within my first 1,000 miles. At that time they replaced the alternator and it seemed to make the chirping go away for about 20 miles. My schedule and lazy nature let the next 14k miles slip by before taking it back in. This time the dealership mechanic heard the sound and knew right away what it was.

So far so good, I think they chased away what the kids have been calling "Daddy's Canary"... fingers crossed.
