Got a call from Starkville P.D. earlier today saying my apartment was burglarized last night. Kicked in the door to the point the door was dented and completely broke out the door jamb. Of course, all electronics, bicycle, iMac, misc. tools and jewelry stolen. I've got renters insurance, so hey, I'm covered there and it's just stuff, right?
The question is, they turned the place inside out. I spoke to the officer when he was onsite (I'm 5 hours away) and asked him to do a walk through. He said my spare keys and other misc stuff was missing from the "junk" drawer in my bedroom. If someone has my spare key, does anyone know if I can get my current key re-coded or whatever I need to do to prevent them from coming back when I get back down there and stealing my jeep? I know the dealership will be able to answer this question come Friday, but I'm just looking for something to rest my nerves.
Sorry to hear this at the holiday season. My brother in law got robbed early this morning, for the second time. He knows who did it now. Bummer. Hope everything works out well for you.
Thanks man, I'll look into it. BTW, I am/was an A&P. Loved it. Never got to work on the jets though. I specialized (not by my choice) in regional turbo-props. Got out a few years ago to finish my degree and now I'm working on a management PhD. Kind of an odd career change huh?
Whoa whoa. Never served myself. Was the first generation of my family that didn't/didn't have to. Grandfather retired a master chief, Pearl Harbor survivor, WW2, Korea and Vietnam vet who taught at Annapolis at the end of his career. Dad was artillery, a liaison to the South Vietnamese during Vietnam and then taught at West Point before getting out. Both pushed me away from the military. Took an ROTC scholarship out of HS but lost it due to immaturity. Well, that and girls, baseball, girls, fraternity, beer and girls. I appreciate the sentiment but I'm also a supporter of prosecuting people guilty of stolen valor. I never served but I'm very grateful of those who have and do.
Just wanted to clear that up. Have a great Christmas and New Years!
Takes a special kind of MFer to rob folks on Xmas! I recently put a battery disconnect switch on my winch. I think ill install another somewhere in the ignition or the fuel pump system for theft control.
Hope you get fully reimbursed money wise at least.
While you wait you might ask your apartment complex if they have a boot they can slap on your Jeep. I know complexes I lived in used to do this to those that parked illegally. If they have have them they might do you a favor by booting it so it can't be driven off.
I have a SPOT trace on my Jeep. The device costs anywhere from 80-100$ depending on which deal you find and the service is $ 99 per year. My Jeep will send me a text when it has been moved and I get the notification in about the first 3/4 mile. You can receive email, text, or both notifications. I chose text. I also bought the 12V power adapter for mine so the lithium battery is only used when my 12V fails.
I know what I would do. I would be setting a trap and HOPING he comes back. If he is caught with that key that puts him inside your apartment and in prison. If he took keys then he probably thought they had value so don't be surprised if he comes back trying to use them and don't be surprised if it's a neighbor or someone you know.
Sorry about your bad luck. Must have been an Ole Miss fan that was trespassing! I would add a hidden kill switch on the fuel pump and catch the bum when he comes to start it!
If you have kwikset door locks you can "re-key" it yourself. I believe all other locks will require a locksmith. If you are renting your landlord should be handling this though.
Id let my doberman sleep in the jeep with the doors unlocked for a while. If you can get past him then u can have it and no he doesnt fall for the old hot dog or baloni trick either hes trained
We've been looking at this for a GPS tracking option. They are a bit high for the device, but the idea is great, it self charges either by solar or kinetic, so you could hide one in a Jeep and never worry about the battery as long as it moved enough to charge kinetically. Plus the monthly service fee was reasonable (and included free for the first year).
It had to have been someone who knew you were away and what you had inside your place. Could be friend of a friend or neighbor. If I ever caught someone in the act I'd be put in jail for murder; assuming they found the guy's body.
Someone told me a few years ago that we, as a society, are really headed towards two groups. People that are willing to work for what they get and people that are willing to take all they can.
