Chrome don't get you home but woooooh wifey!!!

My wife who is recovering from serious surgery was driving around town and spotted an 08 Black Rubicon decked out in chrome and mentioned it to me. I went and checked it out. First thing I checked out was the transmission....standard.....possibilities....if it were an auto, the visit would have concluded there. I inquired about the vehicle inside....price was right. Next day I visited with the wife. Drove it home and put a creeper under it and that was spotless....looked like it had never been off road....with all that chrome....probably did a lot of mall crawling . Looked under the hood....spotless.....hhhhhhmmm. Most importantly.....wife says she loves it. Drove it....kicked it around a little bit and engine and transmission seem sound. Car fax.....clean....one owner excellent maintenance record. It is now in the driveway. She traded in her PT Cruiser for it plus lots of money and now we are a three wrangler family. Two 08s and a 92. Here is a picture because in this forum, it didn't happen unless you post pictures.

The moral to this story is chrome may not get you home....but it sure does make the wife happy. Now I ask....how could I argue with that. I joked with her about the mall crawler thing and she said what makes you think that this jeep is going to stay on the pavement? Well.....that sounds like a good start. A year ago I would never have thought that we would be a two Rubicon family. What a happy surprise!

There is a dealer/rental place in town called Thrifty. They had that gem sitting right out front on the grass next to route 20. My wife was trapped I mean smitten.

Congrats. If that's what she likes that's all that counts. If she changes her mind you can easily de-modify. You think she'll notice if each week you remove one piece of chrome.

Hey that's great! It's really not that bad other than the defender. My only concern would be buying from a Thrifty rental. Was this a rental vehicle?

My plan is to point to the bumper and say: Look honey, the bumper is rusting. OK to fix that and paint it black? Then quickly go to town on it scuffing it up and spraying it semi-gloss black. Then some time later....look honey, the side steps are beginning to rust maybe I should paint those too....and so on.

Hi Tom, No it was a single owner in the eastern part of the state.

Hi Tom, No it was a single owner in the eastern part of the state.
You are now part of the collective and have been fully assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Chrome won't get you home.....WHAT? yes it will Chrome wheels will roll just like black and cost the same or less... Chrome hinges open just like painted hinges Chrome will get you home but the trend of going all black ::wretch:: makes me want to say Black won't get you back...

Very nice looking Rubi!

EVERYWHERE on the jeep, it looks like it hasn't seen anything more than a garage and the mall parking lot....even the engine compartment...looks like a new jeep.....not like mine for sure. Mine looks like it is driven....A LOT! Not just on the roads if you know what I mean.
