"Chrome" on stock Sahara bumpers

Has anyone tried to remove this? I think it is just a plastic piece over the bumper but I am not sure if it will screw the bumper up if I remove it. I eventually will get some new bumpers but right now I don't have the $$ and I hate the chrome.

Thanks!

There is a thread somewhere on the forum about this I believe. I also recall a thread about how to put it on your bumper if you like that look and don't already have it. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Or you could maybe' paint it with a rattle can, just scuff it up with fine sandpaper, wipe it over with wax & greese remover, mask the bumper & spray away.

Oh -just saw it comes off, so take it off & paint it then put it back on

Eight screws hold it on, four on the back lip on the top, four on the bottom.
Once the screws are removed, pull the top part foreward to remove it.
The screws are Torx head, T-25.

Sorry, I didn't notice it was plural. The above info works for the front bumper. I haven't taken the cover off the back yet.

I dont like that center thing on the saharas bumper. Everytime i pass one I always say to myself that it would have been the first thing I took off. Other than the back seat that is.

It was exactly that easy on the front. Took about 10 min total b/c the top screws were a little hard to get at. The back bumper was harder. It had 5 T-25 on the top and still 4 on the bottom. However, you cannot get to them with out taking off the bumper. Underneath the back are 6 bolts, 2 on each side by the fenders and 2 toward the middle. The bumper is all plastic so it is really light so don't worry about it falling on you! Once the bumper is off you can take of the plastic "chrome" and put the bumper back on. Whole job took about an hour (I did get distracted by my very preggo wife though).

I have been meaning to do it for a while. My thinking was "this is going to be a can-o-worms" and put it off due to time. But, it went a lot faster than I thought it would.

I kept those bumper accents on my Jeep for 3 days after I bought it. The look just didn't sit right with me.

I'm about halfway down this page:

I def like it better this way. I am not that mechanically inclined that is why it took me so long to finally do it.

If you don't find anyone local, I think I got $150 for mine on ebay.

I thought it has a nice look and offsets the black on my Mango tango. Now on my TJ I have everything all black.

Once you start to de-Sahara your Jeep, it's hard to stop...

This is mine now; I started with the fake chrome too.

Front bumper replaced
Rear bumper replaced
wheels and tires replaced
side steps replaced
fake chrome in steering wheel covered

This looks exactly like my list of to-dos! I am going to pop out the fake chrome in the steering wheel next and paint it black. Have to wait a little on everything else. It is a slow process.

Since I'm from GA, followed state law and camo wrapped the inserts.
