Chrysler had me waste a day for the recall nonsense

I am really upset with Chrysler for sending me the notice of recall for the tow bar. I got the notice last week and it clearly says that -

"The MOPAR brand tow bar, purchased for your Jeep Wrangler (VIN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX), may allow the towed vehicle to become detached from the tow vehicle. This can result in a crash without warning."

Well, my Jeep has the tow package option. So what does this say to me? That the boat I tow weekly could become detached.

Well hell, I don't want to lose the boat or kill someone so I call the local Jeep dealer who happens to be an hour and a half away in Key West. They verified the VIN and the recall and set up the appointment for today.

I had to take the day off from work and drove down there. I then had to wait four hours when the service guy tells me that my vehicle doesn't have the tow bar under recall.

WTF????????????????

He then tells me that the tow bar in question fits on the FRONT of the car for when something like an RV pulls the Jeep in tow. I reminded him I had called before and verified my Jeep was under recall, how the heck could they let me drive all the way down there without knowing if I needed the part or not? He said he has seen about two dozen Wranglers since the recall notice went out and NONE had the tow bar installed.

So I wasted a whole day and half a tank of gas.

Livid I called Chrysler's recall center to tear them a new one. I get three sentences into my complaint when the woman tells me to hold on, she already knows what I am going to say. She tells me she gets 50 calls a night from people who wasted time at the dealership over this nonsense. She then says if I read the recall notice that is says it is about the tow bar I purchased "or may have purchased". I then pointed out that they clearly say it was purchased for my Jeep and even reference my VIN. She agreed that it was worded pretty badly and then told me that in actuality, less than 5% of all Wranglers even have this part installed.

I told her I wanted Chrysler to pay me for my time and gas, that this is only fair for sending out such a poorly worded recall notice that scared the crap out of me. Never mind that I was afraid to tow and use my boat over the weekend. She told me sorry, Chrysler wouldn't do anything for me.

I am really upset about this. Chrysler can't even do a recall right.

I saw the recall notice. Saw posts about it on the forums. Ignored the notice.

Dude... it's not Chrysler, it's the service dept at the dealer.... I called to schedule an appointment as I interpreted it as the hitch... My service rep asked "Did we install the bar so you can tow your Jeep behind an RV"... finalized in a 5 min phone call...

It might be worse if they were all practiced and good at recalls. I imagine Toyota is getting the hang of them about now.

Call and complain to the dealer. You could at least get a free oil change or two out of it.

lol, that happened to me also.I went to the dealership, and the service rep walked up to the front of my Rubicon ,bent over ,took a look, then looked at me and said,"ok ,your done". I said,"what?!!!" I feel your frustration.I hate to keep pounding the drum, but Chrysler is a good corp. that is run poorly.

Why does the manual trans. pop out of gear?
Why do the auto trans. overheat?
Why are the headlights on the Jk not bright enough? you get my point.
