What do you guys use to clean it? I recently got back from a round trip 32 hour road trip and frankly my steering wheel just feels dirty/a bit oily. Any ideas of what to wipe it down with? My hands feel gross after driving since I've gotten back.

Soap and water. A lot of cleaners/conditioners leave a slight residue. With something you touch all the time, that may bother you like the grease. Soap and water comes right off

Personally, I would stay away from soap and water... It may just be me, but I can't help but feel that repeated use of soap and water will lead to drying out down the road. Might I suggest Lexol? They sell a pH-balanced cleaner that comes highly recommended. You may want to even follow that up with a light coat of Lexol conditioner. Both can be found at your local auto parts store, Walmart, Target, or even some grocers carry it in their automotive section (My local grocers do anyway). Good luck and take care.

X2 - Easy to keep a few in a ziplock in the console.

I have been using Lubriderm Advanced Therapy for extra dry skin since my hands cracked, I will say this, my steering wheel leather has visibly improved over winter. I had mentioned in a previous thread the leather was wrinkling and looking cracked, all of that is gone now. I really think the leather they used was a bad choice, as was how they treated it. The matte finish my steering wheel had was nice, now it's slightly shiny like satin paint and has a nice feel to it. Lotion probably wasn't the best idea to test this out with but it's worked. I haven't treated this wheel with anything else.

i'm glad this came up..i have a new Sahara (had it about 6 weeks) and i was thinking the other day that i like the feel of the "leather" wheel but i don't know how the material will hold up over time......
Do you think it's REAL leather?

Always used lexol on my cars. Best stuff I can find without ordering online. I know it's a Jeep, but doesn't mean after it gets dirty i don't like to clean it the right way. Always looks brand new (inside and out) after a little fun. Call me crazy, but I love auto detailing.

You dont want to use soap and water on leather. What happens to most people that wash their hands with soap and water? It removes the oils and your hands dry out. Leather is an organic substance and should be treated as such. You can use a quality leather cleaner like Lexol, then condition it with lexol leather conditioner. Leave it to dry for a while.

Lexol is a great product, I have been in the auto parts business for about 17 years and have seen different products come and go, I have used them all. Lexol has been very consistent and I use it on my F150 FX2 with black leather, and have already conditioned my red leather in my JKUR 10A. with it. I highly recommend it.
