So what is the best way to clean the underneath of your JK.......any suggestions, I have a 2014 with 2500 miles that looks like its 80,000 mile JK after the swamps I went through......Any suggestions
Some have said a sprinkler placed under it and then shifted every 5 min gets most of it off. I think using the local high pressure wash racks works best but I bring a foam pad to lay on and get under there real well, no matter what I'm getting wet but thats the price of fun.
On the front and rear of the frame there are holes big enuff to get a hose in. Gunk colllects and will start rust. Run the water in the front and back until it is clean water running out of your frame. You d be suprised how much crap is is in there. I learned this tip from fellow jeepers and its served me well
I also pore oil in my frame after cleaning it and letting it dry from time to time to help fight rust. An old trick I learned back in my "mud truck" days.
Slick Products are the best way to go here. Mix up their Slick wash in a 1 gallon spray applicator and spray the whole Jeep down. Wait about 5 minutes or so for it to soak in and hit it with a hose. You will be impressed at how well it works... Pressure washers do the job but also blow out grease from joints, tear up seals, etc. Slick also makes a wash called "Suds" that cleans and waxes in one application with or without water (has very little "suds" though). Works killer! I have used their products for a few years now on my dirt bikes and now their automotive products as well. I have a friend who runs a pretty sick mud truck and he uses Slick after every run. Serious mud there and it comes out looking brand new. You can find some info on their website:
In the summer I back down a boat launch and sit there for 10-15 minutes. Once the DNR came by and asked what I was doing I said I just realized I forgot my boat they smiled and drove away.
The sprinkler works well for cleaning off salt/sand if you go beach wheeling. After more heavy wheeling in mud, however, i've found the only thing that really clears out the undercarriage is a power washer.
I bought my own powerwasher, figured the amount I spend every month at the car was will pay for itself. It also comes in handy around the house washing other things. I also drive it up on blocks to help get under the jeep to wash it.
Anyone using commercial cleaning products like engine cleaner, purple power, etc. to help with the effort?
