cold air intake

anyone have a cold air intake on their 4 door? if so, does it improve gas mileage at all or horsepower? also, would it void the warranty if installed?

Do not have one on my Jeep yet but had one on my Xterra that I just traded in. I didn't notice any gas mileage improvement really but I did love it! I had a Volant cold-air and I could not have been happier. Really I got it for the sound and plan on getting one for the new Jeep. Just makes it sound beefier on the throttle and less like a mini-van. Looks great and didn't void my warranty on the Nissan. Don't know about Jeep but would be surprised if it did.

Yeah I have the aFe power package, I can't say gas mileage has gotten any better, maybe a 1 mile or 2. I can tell you this. It gives you alot of bottom end. The freeway entrance ramps are a breeze. Nice low tone too, it smoothes out the road sounds of the 35s.
Bottom line, you gain a few noticeable ponies, a nice sound emitting from under the hood when you get on it. Gas Mileage ? Warranty ?

Go for it

That effect is called the "butt dyno". It's more wishful thinking than actual horsepower.

Here; This Product is safer and works better than CAIs.

Here's an old thread about CAIs.

Much better than baseball cards in the spokes too.
You can choose V8 or V12. I think that you can find fake BOV whistles too.

Hah- my personal favorite was duct taping a turkey call over the blow-off valve on my old racecar- BEST mod ever!!! I definitely won a few races and overtakes just from making my opponents laugh their asses off. Never got old in dozens of races

Also, the effects most folks feel from CAI's on the JK is what I refer to as NP- NoisePower (or NoPower). Nothing to do with HP (HorsePower), it's an increase in noise, and a decrease in funds, which makes people dearly hope they've gained HP. Usually all in their heads.

There are 4 ways to make ANY noticable gains in HP with the JK's:
1. Superchips- best, and cheapest
2. Re-gear- 2nd best, 2nd cheapest- great idea if you go off-road, not so great if you worry about warranty (more on that later)
3. Supercharger- not worth the $
4. Hemi swap- $$$$$$$$$$$$$, but SICK

As for warranty, run a search on the Magnuson Moss Act of 1979. Search on here. There are plenty of answers to this question, and more- just a click and a few letters away- like magic! Cheers- Mark W.

The various superchargers right now have compromised tuning, at best. They each are hitting the $ wall- they don't want to go to stand-alone fuel/ignition management systems (which adds a grand or 3), but have hit the wall with regards to what can be done tweaking an OEM system. There are problems, and I wouldn't put my name behind one (also why I don't have one myself, despite RIPPMods being 2 hours away )- Mark W.
