Cold Air Intake

Anyone out there installed a new cold air intake? I hear Mopar is good for the JK. I would love some feedback before i pull the trigger.

Alot will say waste of time,, might get hydro lock if water splashes up there.

I say try it yourself and see what you think.

Im thinking about one,, the Mopar is like $388 from the dealer.

AEM has one just like it for about $220.

And most will say an oil, KN in the off raod is not a good idea,, will gumm up too fast.

You will find out soon,

I have the Volant. Makes a lot of noise - a good noise - sounds better and feels a little perkier; however, don't expect much. No change either way in gas mileage. Superchips says they are partnering with Volant to offer a performance map with that specific CAI - it's not out yet though.

So the Mopar is just an AEM intake, rebadged, by the way. The brand has ZERO impact on warranty, so don't let someone sell you that the Mopar intake will effect warranty ANY differently from another brand.
All of the intakes give you sound, and maybe a horsepower or two. Not worth increasing the chances of hydrolocking on an engine that's already fairly easy to do that to- Mark W.

How about an air intake + a Snorkel, will that lessen the chances of hydrolocking on the engine? and how much power will both combined will provide?

Yes, but if you are adding a snorkel you should also extend your breather tubes.

Power gains on the 3.8 will only come from tuning (a programmer/chip), a supercharger (no turbo kits yet, but they'll work too), or mounting a second 3.8L in the back They have poor cylinder head flow, low compression, and restrictive tuning. For performance, re-gear. You'll get more torque everywhere in the power band, and if done right, better off-road performance as well- Mark W.

Actually, the Mopar one looks like a Brute Force.

Brute force is $229.
Mopar is like $380?

My dealer said that either will work fine as far as warrenty goes.

I will look into it more when I get my free Oil change next week.

I have looked at about 30 open air set ups for the JK.

Forget the name of the one I kinda liked.
