color coated hard top

Did any body in buy the color coated hard top on the 2011 jeep wrangler. I just bought the 2011 jeep wrangler but didn't get the color coated hard top. Wonder if i should have paid an extra $1000 for the painted hard top. Any one think its worth it? I read in magazines and online that its made of the same composite material of the regular material but gives it a more sharper/nicer look.

Maybe when the 2012 comes out with the new engine i trade mine in for the works!

I'd have to think those color coated freedom panels would get scratched up in a hurry if you take them off alot.

My thoughts exactly. And besides, I think the black looks sportier anyway....

That would be my main concern. Scratch a regular freedom top get some plaint and touch it up. Scratch a matching color and I don't see it as easy. And if you take them off regularly they are just too easy to scratch. Would make me leary to remove them and what fun is that

I think they look sharp, but glad I ended getting the regular one. The first time I took the top panels off I scratched them up. As it is regular and not painted, I can just touch it up with a sharpie.

I can imagine the red turning pink after a year or 2 in the sun. But the white is sharp.

good points. I just bought my 2011 jeep and got every option i wanted except the color hard top. Now i thought i should have spent the extra money. Your right i thought the hard top would get scratched up but it does look nice.
I think black and silver would be nice look.
I keep looking online at pictures with the color hard top and get mad at myself not getting it. Oh well

M'eh.

I generally prefer a black top on all colors, though occasionally feel a tan top looks good on certain colors as well if they've got a tan interior. Otherwise, it's a no-go for me on any other color for a top.

So I think you made the right choice!!

After all your discussion on the wonders of chrome over the past few months, I'm dying to see this thing. It better covered in the stuff--can they chrome a windshield? Get them pics up!

Have a body shop paint it. Not Macco or Earl Shieb, a real body shop. Should be close to the money you would have spent through the dealer.

I guess the color coated hard top makes the jeep look more fancy look. A personal preference for some people. I wonder if a collision place could even paint the hard top? lol i would trade in my jeep and get the 2012 with the new engine and color hard top

Yes, a body shop will/can paint it.... That's all Chrysler does.

Color coded is nice. But for the price you can get a regular top and an aftermarket soft top for the summer.

Get the matching paint and paint it yourself. Or take it to a body shop to be done. Will be a lot cheaper than trading in and buying a new one.

I saw a pic recently where someone painted the inside black. That looked good too.

I was mostly interested for a painted top to reduce solar heating. I'm thinking maybe I can find a wrecked white or silver 2011 in a year or two and get the top off it. Not sure how much it would cost and how difficult to find. I did not see any matched tops around here yet.

Love the idea of the colour coded top and flares - makes the ones sitting outside the coffee shop look good.

Take it off road and it will look like cr@p in a matter on minutes.

I think its a silly look for a Wrangler - looks more like a Liberty!

But hey, to each his own

I think both styles look good. I went with the painted because I was trying to achieve a certain look with the red and black.

I just borught my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara white with the HT in black. I am getting ready to put it in the paint and body shop to paint the top matching white. So far I was quoted $400.00 dollars.

This is a pretty old thread....but....Weclome to WF

Oh and I love my painted top.
For me, it depended on the color I was ordering. Some colors I wanted a painted top (Sahara Tan, Billet, Winter Chill), other colors I would have went black (Flame Red, Dozer, Black Forest Green, Commando). Just depends....

Holy revive batman! I thought Saharas always came with painted hardtops? Anyway, 400 seems reasonable.

The black hard tops are textured. They aren't the same as the painted hard tops which are flat and smooth. So if you get yours painted please post pics because I've been thinking about this for awhile now.
