come in if you like making decisions...

in approximately 1.5 weeks I will order something below, only one thing though...ONE.

1) rear bumper (w/ tire carrier detached from gate) +spare tire

2) 2.5" lift

3) winch (w/ accessories)

4) other suggestions (skid plates maybe?)

which would you do? I've got wheels/tires, rock sliders, front bumper, flat fender flares, aux lights, floor mats, grille insert, antennax, tail light guards, clear parking/side reflectors (being shipped).

do NOT want:
-new stereo (I am happy with stock and if stolen I don't need to worry).
-a re-gear (yet).
-to chip my engine.
-CAI.
-a new exhaust.
-a leveling kit.

input is wanted. turns out that making decisions for jeep mods continue to get harder and harder. does it ever stop? that is wishful thinking.

, get the lift in you can afford a decent one and not have to cheap out and settle for a "lesser brand". if not then some skid plating.

I think I would do the lift. A lifted jeep just looks right Didn't your jeep come with skid plates? Mine did. No the mods won't stop till you get it to match the picture in your head of what Your jeep should look like.

aftermarket skids seem to be more stout than the factory skids.

-a leveling kit.

Those are my thoughts on it.

just not sure when I'd use the winch, more of a just in case thing. not wheeling for just a while because of my schedule.

agree, lift does make a jeep more aesthetic.

agree, but I'm thinking they are pricey for their intended use if I can't go wheeling a lot...

off roading, regular driving, taking it camping, grocery store, sleeping in, basically using a jeep the way it is meant to be used...FOR ANYTHING.

This isn't so much about us making decisions as it is about telling you what to do. The decisions are yours.

I wouldn't like running without a spare.

body armor? eh, that is a waste of $...if my jeep is slamming into trees and boulders, armor won't protect it.

if you are referring to after market skid plates, those will be a must in the not too distant future!

1 - Lift
2 - Armor
3 - Rear Bumper/Spare

The first two keep you out of trouble, the third will help when you get into trouble.

The winch can wait - you shouldn't be off-road alone, so someone else probably has one if you need it.

If you are set on not having a spare, why do you include it in your list? Didn't you agree when kbwwolf suggested it? In fact, what is the point in your thread? Seems you have your mind made up and are only good with the input that matches what you want to hear .

Anyway, I do know it's tough prioritizing upgrades. My list is always longer than my bank account is deep. Oh and as far as the armor, guessing the suggestion was for under the vehicle, not on the body. Hardly a waste of money, you even eluded to it in your "other suggestions" line.

Think it through and get what YOU want! Get AAA too if you are gonna run without a spare.

I agree with this list ... unless your jeep is a 2012 with the auto. In that case, I'd say go with skids (and especially one to cover the tranny that exposed line) and 'bang your way thru' until you get a lift.

IMO....I got a rear bumper/tire carrier for my TJ and while it "looked good" I discovered that for me I really didn't need it. I have since moved spare inside to the old back seat area, but that is a different story.

I lifted my TJ but haven't added larger tires yet as I feel that I should go another 1" in the body. SO lifting before tire wheel change combo doesn't make a lot of sense to me...I am (speaking from experience here) Wish I had waited.

Winch? to me it makes the most sense as it is something that you can use not just for yourself but for other people that may need help as well. and you SHOULD be able to than "recover" yourself.

Skids? always a good option to protect the undercarriage but if not "off-road" do you "need" them? but the same thing can be said for the winch.........

I guess that is why my TJ is still not "done" and it is an '04..... and the '12 JK is bone stock (unless you count mats and grab handles)...I can't make a decision that makes sense to any one but me.

-didn't say I was set on not having spare, just prefer without. I have 5 sitting in my living room now.
-point of thread is because I like being part of the jeep forum community and value others opinion...sorry you don't see a point to my thread.
-body armor is not same as skid plates, body armor=waste, skid plates=smart investment

thanks for reply

definitely agree with the spare tire in the back, I like that option a lot.

you're another telling me to wait on the lift....lift should probably wait then since I'll be looking into 35's in 3-4 months.

definitely going to be taking the jeep on some good trails and rocks and through water...that's why the skid plates seem so appealing.

winch is appealing because hey, it's winch! don't need anyone else if you've got a winch!

thanks for the helpful reply.

Skids then lift.

And while a winch is awesome, its not a 100% guarantee. If you are traveling alone, you may get in a situation where you have nothing (like trees) to use as an anchor to winch from.

TF 2.5" lift. Its only 409.00 without shocks, 645.00 with shocks. It's a first thing in my book.

did you ever off road without the lift and just the skid plates? if so, what kind of terrain and did you come into contact much underneath with stock height?

that's what I'm kind of leaning towards. want to do off roading as soon as possible and would like to protect everything underneath. but I'd probably never go alone anyway.

I'd want the lift with the shocks. where did you find it for 645? I just see 719 for the lowest.

Definitely a great price. Unfortunately, I have heard more than a few bad experiences when shopping with 4wheelonline. So I would urge you to see if one of the other vendors could price match their price.
