Coming to a crossroads

I've had my 2011 2 door for almost a year now, at the end of september I'm going to pay it off so i can start modding a bit. It needs tires and I'd like to replace shocks since they have 45k miles and have seen better days. I want 33's so I was planning on picking up the teraflex 1.5" performance leveling kit and new shocks. Depending on what route I go for shocks it pushes me into the same price range as the OME 2" lift which includes shocks. I am worried that I'd get too much lift from the OME kit, but that might not be terrible if I wanted to go with 35's in the future I have no desire to regear and install any supporting mods on my Dana 30 at this point.

I've read through the most popular lift kit on WF, but I'm not sold there either. Anyone want to try and sway my opinion?

That's just stupid. You don't have a clue what you're talking about.
The best you'll ever accomplish is 33" tires with 2" lift and some new shocks if you're smart.

Throw a luchbox locker in the rear or front and then you'll over-rate the axles. BUT if you're careful you'll only break an axle ever couple years. I DID regear with my manual tranny to reclaim better crawl speed in 4LO.

Have fun and remember, the weakest link in the chain. Yep that's going to be the breaker......

And you get the prize for figuring out why I'm asking in the first place.

There are people on here and other forums running 35's on 2" of lift and flat fenders so I'll have to disagree with you there. Also I've seen more than one thread where the OME 2" lift netted closer to 3 or 3.5" of lift I'm happy to dig up and cite these posts, but I digress...What was your actual advice here?

Honesty is the best option sometimes when it comes to advice. If your not going to wheel very often don't go big. 33's and <2.5"s is a safe lift that will satisfy the aesthetics of "not looking stock". It will also save your cost and you can spend it on better shocks that help combat the stiffness of lift shocks.

Now with that being said I have a 12 2dr with 3.5" RK X- factor, Fox Evo 2.0 shocks, adjustable track and control arms with 35x12.5's and drive it down the interstate every day, enjoying every bit of it. It's bouncy and sometimes chaotic buts it's not a trailer queen. I don't take it every weekend but at least 2-3 times a month I do go play. In the end it's what makes you happy. Find someone/place where there are modded jeeps and just talk. You'll figure out what's best for you and your needs. 2 dr jeeps with 33's is a good look for not a lot.

So in an attempt to steer this back on track, if you read the original post I want 33's and a small lift i.e. the teraflex performance level or OME 2". I'm interested in which small lift is best for me and I probably shouldn't have mentioned 35s in the first place. If no one here has any input on that I'll just call around to our vendors here we can probably just let this thread die out and call it a day.

With the teraflex you can choose your shocks, which is really nice. With the OME you don't get to, but they come with good shocks. It about comes down to whether or not you want yellow shocks or not. I ran the teraflex kit and 5100's for a while on my 4dr and loved it.

I run fox shocks too and I love them. I had bilstiens 5100 on my JKU and I'll take the fox's over them. Not saying the 5100's weren't good bc they were but my butt likes the foxes better.

Two months ago I did a serious Nav error... what was suppose to be a thirty minute run turned into a 60mi nighttime debacle pitting my jeep with serious desert terrain working the hell out of my suspension like I NEVER do normally.

it had been years since my being on this trail, but, I was committed either way.

To the topic at hand.

Having 33 pounds of air per tire with empty jk taking the constant 6 hour pounding to include high speed portions of the trail never once did I experience a hint of shock fade. I bottomed out several times even to the point of damn near biting my tongue I was moving mostly in 4Hi in technically I should of been in low range. But, I was really stressed I done this to my wife whom was alone in our Lance Camper back at camp.

This was a first for us, in over 42 years of marriage I've never done something this stupid. I am by no means new to the outdoors.

I will say this, I can take a picture of my tires and show evidence not one cut, not one imperfection anywhere I can see. My tires worked overtime in cushioning the thousands of blows I put it through that night. I researched very carefully before I bought them. My final decision came after reading an exhaustive realtime eval on most popular brands of tires on Expedition forums. Since I had them mounted, I have had them in ever condition and terrain to include ice, ice mud, snow, both hard crunchy to slushy chit no air down, pulled me through with never a hint of loosing momentum. When I did come upon large drifts I carefully walked or scouted ahead to take note of all possible winching points to emergency extraction if I over did my doing ah dare thing. Keep in mind, when I play, I am always alone. Another story maybe...

Pavement pounding. This Cooper AT3 has serious sipping in the lugs combined with the rubber compound to adhere to ice. Let's me say loudly it adheres!!! As I have been playing on this 8000ft county piece of iffy maintained road all my life

iPad issue again...

My apologies-my tire story moved from desert to high sierras in California.

I began doing slalom like maneuvers so as to cause the jeep to break traction. I must say I had to intentionally move it along to reach that point. The anti traction control kept getting in my way and for some reason did not want to deactivate and let me be overly squirrelly. I also performed braking test so as to simulate emergency braking at speed. On ice, slushy snow, mud to include driving up a very steep forest hummus only hill on my mountain property. 4Hi.

I simply adore these tires. I thought BF Goodrich AT or MT's were the one and only love and no other would do me.

I was wrong, I have discovered a new love.
