Comments on JK Build

So I can't seem to find anything that fits all my needs at the local dealerships (at least from their websites), so I thought maybe I'd try to build online? I'd hate having to wait for it, but at least it's built just for me, right?

My goal is to have a somewhat comfortable ride that will tear through the crap that mother nature is going to throw at me next winter (I know, still need to drive safe!) and that I can enjoy the sun in during the Summer.

I was trying to add both the soft and hard top but the Jeep site doesn't seem to want to let me do that.

Any comments on this build? Anything that I should just get done aftermarket or things you'd include/exclude for a daily driver?

I'm liking it; I DD mine too.
I was silly and bought a Sahara. Slowly but surely, the Sahara bits are coming off and being replaced.

You'll figure out what you want to take off and what you want to keep. I like the Infinity sound system and power windows/doors. Stock bumpers/wheels/tires/headlights/steps --- not so much.

Looks great, but now after having mine for a year or so, I wish I would have done the Rubi. Everything else looks perfect. There should be a dual top option somewhere when you build it out that will give you both tops.

X2 on the dual top option if you want both tops. I would also look at getting the limited slip rear. It's only a couple hundred bucks.

Ick on the lsd --- it's only a 1.2 ratio and hardly worth it. You can do much much better with an Eaton or some other.

I had the sahara unlimited and had a chance to "do over" when Chrysler bought it back and went with the Rubicon. No regrets I love the thing...everything about it. I got the hard top on both jeeps and on the original one I got the soft top and included it in the purchase. I carried the top over to the Rubicon. I enjoy both tops. No fuss in the winter with the hard top and it is warmer and quieter with it on. In the summer I put the soft top down every chance I get. The enhanced sound system with NAV on the Rubi is also well worth the price of admission. My car rocks with sound and I didn't have to do anything to it for that effect. Having the lockers and sway disconnect installed stock is a major plus. I keep hearing people dream of having those features and grunt over having to pay the price to put them in. Then I hear a lot of compromising about those two items so that they can be installed as an interim way of building up to what is actually desired. If you can afford it at the outset, just bite the bullet and get it. If you have no choice because of budget, start with the X (sport) and work your way up. It will take years though because most folks can't afford the extras while making payments. It is a trade-off for sure.

I wanted to have fun with mine right out of the box. That is why I went with the Rubicon in spite of the cost. The thing is more fun than a barrel of monkeys and very versatile off road as it is stock. Definitely highly recommend it.

jk'n,

Just admit it. You are not one bit sorry - not even a little bit.

But it's OK. Rubi envy is common and curable, if not inexpensive to cure.

I ordered mine, very similar to yours 3 weeks ago and it is supposed to be in today (I went for half doors and a soft top). Only issue I have heard is hard tops might not be available for the rest of the 2010 run.

Either order or plan on getting some sort of steps installed ASAP IMO..
Looks naked without them.

Are the hard top windows already tinted dark?
If not, that's also a cheap option to order.
