Picked up or new 2015 today and after almost 200 miles the cal light is still flashing on the compass. Has anyone else had their compass take this long to calibrate?
Yup, this should do it. I used a Wal-Mart parking lot with my new Jeep. If driving in circles does not calibrate the compass you need to see the dealer. Sorry.
Just find a school parking lot or empty field and just drive around in circles for like 10 min...If there is some snow, leave it in 2wd and go to town....
Good news i got the compass calibrated. I had to go thru the menu and find where it stated to calibrate the compass and then start driving in circles and it worked after about 2 circles. Really pisses me off because the dealership should have taken care of that before i picked up the jeep.

Same thing with my 2012. Never stays set. I've set it too many times to count and it has never stayed accurate. I'm thinking of going under the dash to disable it.
And I thought this was just happening to me. Picked up my 2015 on Tuesday and the "cal" light has been flashing the entire time. Been meaning to take it back to the dealer. I will try and calibrate it myself tomorrow. Wish me luck.
2014 JKU Owners Manual Manual Compass Calibration If the compass appears erratic, inaccurate or abnormal, you may wish to calibrate the compass. Prior to calibrating the compass, make sure the proper zone is selected. 1. Start the engine and leave the transmission in the PARK position. 2. Press and hold the RESET button (for approximately 10 seconds) until the current variance zone number is displayed. 3. Release the RESET button, then press and hold again for approximately 10 seconds, until the direction is displayed, with the CAL indicator on continuously in the display. 4. To complete the compass calibration, drive the vehicle in one or more complete 360–degree circles, under 5 mph (8 km/h) in an area free from power lines and large metallic objects, until the CAL indicator turns off. The compass will now function normally. NOTE: • A good calibration requires a level surface and an environment free from large metallic objects such as buildings, bridges, underground cables, railroad tracks, etc. • Magnetic materials should be kept away from the top of the center of the instrument panel. This is where the compass sensor is located.
Had same issue with my 2014. Dollars to donuts your compass setting is where the jeep was built. You need to change the compass setting to the geographical area of the country you live in. The manual shows you which number to use based on where you live. You can change number via evic.
Here is the 2014 owners manual in PDF. Opps it appears it is too big to post. Do a google search for your owners manual. I cannot remember where I downloaded mine or you can tell me what state you are in and I will lookup your compass code.
Set the variation to zone 11 and the. Recall rated immediately after in a parking lot as per the above instructions. Works great. No more erratic behavior. Glad I read this thread.
I gave mine a couple of hundred miles and it still said Cal. I went and drove it in circles. I did 3 clockwise and then turned and after the 2nd counter clockwise circle the light went off and has stayed off.
Did you follow the instructions in your owners manual?
To Set The Variance
Start the engine and leave the transmission gear selector
lever in the PARK position. Press and hold the RESET
button on the steering wheel (for approximately ten seconds)
until the current variance zone number is displayed.
To change the zone, press and release the STEP button to
increase the variance one step. Repeat as necessary until
the desired variance is achieved.
NOTE: The factory default zone is 8. During programming,
the zone value will wrap around from zone 15 to
zone 1.
The directions given in post 29 are for Wranglers WITHOUT EVIC.
Here are the directions for those with EVIC. I did mine awhile back and I have EVIC, these work.
Do this first -
To Change The Compass Variance: page 333 in owner's manual
1. Turn the ignition switch RUN (it is not necessary to
start the engine).
2. Press the MENU button until Personal Settings
(Customer-Programmable Features) displays in the
EVIC.
3. Press the DOWN button until “Compass Variance”
message and the last variance zone number displays
in the EVIC.
4. Press and release the SELECT button until the proper
variance zone is selected according to the map.
5. Press and release the COMPASS button to exit.
Then this -
Manual Compass Calibration - page 332 in owner's manual
If the compass appears erratic and the “CAL” indicator
does not appear in the EVIC display, you must put the
compass into the Calibration Mode manually as follows:
1. Start the engine. Leave the shift lever in PARK in order
to enter the EVIC Programming Menus.
2. Press the MENU button until Personal Settings
(Customer-Programmable Features) displays in the EVIC.
3. Press the DOWN button until “Calibrate Compass”
displays in the EVIC.
4. Press and release the SELECT button to start the calibration.
The “CAL” indicator will display in the EVIC.
5. Complete one or more 360–degree turns (in an area
free from large metal or metallic objects) until the
“CAL” indicator turns off. The compass will now
function normally.
I've since been told that because I have the NAV system, so there is no variation settings to change.
