Compass/Outside temp display Question

I noticed today that my temperature display was reading very low
(15 degrees F) when it was over 40 degrees outside...anyone ever experience the display giving the wrong temp? Was very cold last night and may have reached 15 degrees...could the sensor have frozen or have ice on it? On that note, I washed the Jeep 2 days ago and the last 2 mornings, after cold nights I had to use a lock deicer to open the doors...seems like the moisture is stubborn in going away. It's no biggie...just seeing if anyone else has seen this...

Frozen from when you washed it since it's located at the bottom of the grill.

If moisture has gotten into the sensor which is usually a resistor that changes resistance when it's temperature changes, it could effect the reading by lowering the resistance between the two electrical contact points. Most of the sensor resistors have lower resistance the lower that the temperature goes so moisture causing a false low reading would fit the situation.

Okay, thanks, I thought it might have something to do with washing it...

You just got me on a rolling chuckle. I'm at work late and thanks for the laugh.
It's the end of the marking period and doing some grading and needed the light moment.

Just a warning to you

I also seem to have a problem with my temp display. It seems to not read correctly and than out of the blue it decides to work. I jiggled it around and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I drove for 30 minutes the other day before it seemed to work. Anyone else?? I guess I should just take it back and have it fixed under warranty.
