Console/Rear cup holder clip thingies

I've googled and searched forums but cannot figure out what the two upside-down clip things on the back of center console are for, above the rear cup holders.
Having problems getting image to insert.

This link should show it.

I have a 2012 Wrangler Sahara.

I've got one of those in the front under the air conditioning vent control. not sure. I was thinking a clip for garage ticket or something, but now that I see they are in the back in a 4dr, I have no idea. lol. let us know when you find out.

I'd bet it's like the little rubber tray under the handbrake or the 1/2" wide trough on the center console down by the driver's feet:

Engineer 1: "We've got some extra space, what do we put here?"
Engineer 2: "I dunno, let me spin the wheel of random s***!"

On a side note, has anyone found a use for those two little "storage" spaces I mentioned above?

Mine has the power window switches for the back there. It's a 2012 JKU arctic.

Do you have electric windows? That's where the flips would be.

Or a vertical letter opener.

Or a place to hang dog sweaters.

Not sure tho.

Those clips are what Chrysler decided to use to remind you, that you decided to skip out on a luxury option they had planned for that area.

I have electric windows, but looking at the link picture, maybe they are for hanging sunglasses on. Just a guess.

If it is the same clips I am thinking of they are sun glass clips. The pictures are not showing so I can't tell. I just went and looked in my jeep and those are the only clips I see.

In the 2-door, since there are no windows back there, they leave them as clips.

Is this a 11-12 JK? I've never even noticed those things before. If someone comes up with a good use for them let me know. Is this 2-dr or 4-dr?

OP mentioned they own a 2012 Sahara, so that would indicate a 2-door. The pic I posted is from my 2012 2-door Arctic.

That is exactly where the rear power windows buttons are. I am assuming clips are in for those who opted out of pwr windows or 2 door models Chrysler replaced the buttons with garbage bag holders/clips. It costs too much to redesign a whole console with or without power windows. Instead insert two inexpensive clips.

Thanks for all of the replies!

The photo from Cosmic Charlie, post #22 is exactly what it looks like.

I, too, wondered if a trash bag holder - like actually made to use those clips. I started my search looking for just that. I already have hung a plastic bag on it to keep trash in, but when I took panels off for a semi-topless, day, it flew up and I barely caught it before it became litter.

If they are just to have something there for Jeeps without rear power windows, you'd think they could have changed the design just enough to be something useful. Even if just a bottle opener !
