My opinion of the steering/handling/ride is the exact opposite of his. Guess I'm the fool.... but a happy fool!

So it's the SUV of the year from one source, and blasted by C.R.
That should tell you something.
C.R. compared the Wrangler to the Rav4 and CR-V.
That should tell you something.
The Wrangler is one of the top vehicles for owner loyalty and holding its value.
That should tell you something.

It's kinda funny cause when I was looking for a new vehicle I talked to my brother in law who has only owned toyota and who has a subscription to CR. he was showing me its poor ratings and bla bla bla. I bought an arctic JKU and took it over there for him to see. He basically said he's not listening to CR anymore. He wants to get rid of his '94 4-runner now and get one.

Yes the rocks would be slippery when they are wet & you have standard tires on your Jeep. They really should have someone who knows how to off road to do these tests, he looked like he was trying to win the race going up there

CR is a joke, no matter what they are reviewing.

Despite all that, I'd love to see the same exact "test' with one of their other suvs.

Now this is what I call brand loyalty, never heard anyone defend a crv. Speak on my brothers, let us march upon consumer reports headquarters and crawl upon their front steps in our jeeps, we will be heard!

You want a serious laugh, look at how they took the 4runner and Land Cruiser up the same rock test. Slow and at a different angle.

I already got into this topic on a Subaru forum with a Consumers Report fan boy. After the Samurai debacle, CR should have been shut down. They may or may not be paid off for reviews, but they definitely play favorites and skew results. Call the Wrangler a terrible on road car, fine I get that. But to question its off road capability with that ridiculous driving up a rocky hill? Pathetic...

Are we really going to make fun of the guys facial hair because you don't like his review... This thread has really shown some members maturity level.

i was merely stating that his review was a bit lopsided on the true capabilities of the Jeep, just like his lopsided shaving job.. He cannot shave, and clearly whoever was driving that jeep cannot drive. You're right, i didn't care for his review because their reports are done by someone "doing a job" and they are usually sub-par.

Not at the guys facial hair just because you disagree with his review.

I didn't agree with the review either but you didn't even menton the review in that post.

you are right, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I'm not going to turn this into an argument, but clearly you did not see where that was heading with my original post.

His review did not intend to show the "capabilities of a Jeep." It was meant to show the Wrangler as a vehicle for the average consumer (the target audience of CR) and his review IMHO, is spot on. Remember, I OWN a 2012. If I said this stuff would you say that I'm an idiot too?

It's heavy, it's crude, its fit/finish is mediocre, it's "slow", it's loud, it's not economical, it's not particularly comfortable, it doesn't ride particularly well on tarmac, BUT, it is STILL the best off road vehicle one can buy from a dealership in the world. Those of you/us that accept that, understand that, and we bought it for a SPECIAL purpose, whether it is to "look" tough, to "think" tough, or to enjoy offroading. If we didn't understand that, we would literally be idiots.

Let me ask you guys something, if you have to review a Lotus Elise (I don't know if you have ever been in one, but if not, look at some pics online, especially the interior) and COULD NOT use the handling as a plus point, how well do you think the car would rate on your scale?

CR would probably rate the Lotus lower than a Wrangler based on ingress and egress alone. That, and the fact they love, I mean LOVE Camrys and don't value unique autos. Bottom line is that they know their audience and as someone already stated most eloquently, they look at vehicles like appliances.

I agree. If one takes off the Wrangler colored glasses it isn't far off. The things he points out as bad, the average Wrangler owner doesn't care about, or we wouldn't own one. I have the SRT8 Grand Cherokee and no doubt handing is night and day different, but my JK doesn't have 425 HP and didn't cost $64K either. He's spot on about the new interior, it's 10x nicer than the old one, and I have owned both. The new engine is 10x better as well IMO.

The part about it's good attributes was, in my (and many others) opinion(s), was downplayed almost to the point of slander. "Had some trouble getting traction on rocks" is a completely unqualified, unfair statement, especially when coupled with the atrocious driving in the video. "Nothing happens when you turn the steering wheel" is a gross over statement; when critiquing a truck, one should treat it like a truck.

For a truck, a Wrangler handles great, doesn't ride too badly, is responsive, and handles extremely well off road. When talking about the "SUV Class," it's actually an SUV, and *not* a car that is just trying to be big, like most other SUVs on the market.

In this instance, pandering to the "average consumer" is tantamount to slander. The average consumer is wrong!
