Convince my wife to keep the 2014 - Short people

All,

I decided to buy a 2015 4dr Willys Wheeler (it should be delivered in a week or two) and we are going to trade in my 2014 2dr. My wife currently has a 2010 VW Golf that she likes better than the Jeep. :puke:
Anyways I think that there ought to be reasonable (price wise) mods to address her complaints about the Jeep - I just haven't spent alot of time at it.

Her complaints

  • She is short (5") and even with no lift says it is difficult to get into the Jeep. I already have barricade rock rails on. http://www.wranglerforum.com/f202/rock-rails-and-side-steps-923097-2.html
  • She likes the Golf seats and says that the seats on the Jeep are uncomfortable
  • Making more room for cargo and keeping the back seat.
  • She doesn't like folding down the rear seat because she is short
  • She says she has blind spots to the rear - and did I mention she is short? :lmao:

Any suggestions you might have to overcome those items will help us keep our happy home and 2 Jeeps in the garage.

:bop:

Let her drive what she wants. Same reason my wife has her Cadillac SRX

My wife has her complaints regarding my 2Door Rubi

She's also shorter at 5'1" and has issues getting in when in certain clothes/shoes (dresses, or business attire for going to work)

It's loud (soft top) storage capacity in the 2door, etc.

She likes to hop in the Jeep on occasion to run to the store, gym, take the dogs out for a spin

Long story short, happy wife, happy life.

I'm not married but I hear happy wife, happy life. Let her keep her car. Trade in the 2dr.

My wife is short at about 5' 1/2". Our Jeep is her DD. She's the one who wanted a Wrangler and she picked it out.

She manages to get in it fairly easily with a handhold here, a foot there and she just pulls herself into it. She has never complained about the height but she adamantly says NO when I teasingly ask her if she wants a lift kit installed. :D

I added a set of PedalMates pedal extenders so she doesn't sit right up against the airbag. I'm 5' 11" and I don't have any trouble driving it with those on.

Put the shoe on the other foot... assuming you're six feet tall - imagine yourself getting in and out of a Jeep everyday that's lifted a total of 12" .. that's what your wife will be experiencing.

A Jeep lifted 6" with 37" tires is approximately 8.5" taller than a stock Jeep.

Perhaps a nice compromise is in order...

My JK is lifted and I am only 5' tall but using the paracord grab bar handles and Ace rock sliders I can easily lift myself in and out of my jeep in pants or a dress. Ok....I have to hike the dress up a little bit I will admit to get in but it works. There is an art and it is so much easier when you have the grab bar handles to help pull yourself up versus just stepping on the sliders.

Sounds like she just prefers her Golf over the jeep and like stated above - jeeps aren't for everyone. Why someone wouldn't rather have a jeep - I have no clue - I am in love with my jeep and will only have a jeep from here on out.

Hire a Pullman Porter to put one of their famous step stools, outside your wife's door whenever she stops somewhere? :D

:happyyes:

I would always help her in and out of the car everywhere she went if I did not need to be gainfully employed. In fact right now I make sure she has this (see pic) to get in and out of the car door when I am with her. I was just looking for a less labor intensive and not super expensive option

I agree that a good set of Grab Handles will make getting in and out of the Jeep easier. Those combined with the steps/sliders you have should help a bunch.

You could swap the seats out for something different if she doesn't like them! As for more cargo, the only thing I can think of is to add a Roof Rack or other cargo rack. There is only so much room in a 2 door!

Let me know if you have questions about anything or would like a quote!

Step Stool Alternative

Has she considered just using a step stool? I purchased a low cost, extremely sturdy and metal with a non skid rubber surface so my aging father can get in the Jeep. I'm 5'10 but I use it all the time to make sure I have my freedom tops aligned correctly and to clean the top when I'm washing the jeep. Because it has a non skid surface and rubber feet, I can pull at it out in the self service wash area without worrying about slipping. It can fit in the passenger area on the floor or in the cargo area. It's a pretty cheap portable, multi-use alternative that doesn't require installation. :)

Your choices are
1) Let her keep the Golf. Enjoy the Willys
2) Listen to constant complaining (About the 2014 until it gets traded in anyways)

Both have the same outcome.

Save yourself misery in that department. It will be in a different department, but, that one, it is best to let go.

I read similar issues on another thread... I think GraBars helped a lot, along with the right set of rails.

Who cares if she dislikes certain attributes about your Wrangler. Let her drive the lame VW. If she wants to ride in your Jeep then just assist her when getting into the rig. Besides, you should be opening the door for her anyways.

My wife is 5'1" and has no problem getting into my rig even though the rocker panel is 28" from the ground.

Happy wife happy life. Not only that I could not afford two jeeps to mod....My wifes new Accord gets about 36mpg on the highway and nice road car for when you really want to put 1200 miles in a day behind you. I love my wrangler she loves her accord.

I hate to say this, but sell the 2DR and let your wife keep her car. You don't need 2 Jeeps. My wife finds my seats uncomfortable and I can't take the steps off because she can't get in. She's also 5'6. She happily drives her Honda Civic.

Let her have her car, I am 5'2 maybe a little shorter, lol : love my jeep !
I traded my enclave for my jeep jku, the kids were mad about no dvd system but that's why we have a caddi esv, sometimes it's better to have options for certain road trips, like 3+ hours to the Berkshires in my jeep, not a fun time wish we took the caddi . Just let her have her VW .
