Cooper AT3 vs ATW

There was some interest on here a while back about Cooper's ATW tires. I've been running AT3s, while they are good on dry snow, I have decided that half worn AT3s are horrible on ice.

Tire Synthetic rubber Tread Automotive tire Auto part

AT3 with about 24k on the left. ATW on the right.

The ATWs have smaller tread blocks, wider spacing, and about twice as much siping.
So far the traction seems to be excellent. I do find that they pickup and throw more rocks. Tire noise is similar between the two.

Hopefully I will be able to get out and give a better review of the road manners in the next few days.

Pick up more rocks than the AT3's?? Good God. I've got AT3's with about 15k on them and they're freakin' gravel magnets. Sometimes before going for a drive I'll do a quick glance at the tires and pop out pebbles with the end of a key. I love 'em, tho.

I also ran at3 for about 500 miles and took them off and sold them. They did not do well on ice for me. strange thing is they have a tread very similar to toyo at2's that do great. Still the at2 is not nearly as good on ice and snow covered ice as KO2's are. the ATW look like they should do well on slick roads.

I'll be interested to see how the atw does this winter, really seems like a good tire for wet or snowy weather.

I just put a set of A/TW's on my 14 Ram 1500 last week. We got about 2 1/2 feet of snow the last few days and I am very pleased with their performance. Way better than the A/T3's I have on another truck as far snow performance goes.
Any updates after a year of use?
I'm particularly interested to see how deep the sipes go on the A/TW; how many miles before the tread blocks wear through the sipes and start looking more like the A/T3?

I'm happy with the ATWs this far. The sipes are deep, probably about 3/32 of tread left when they will be gone. Like most "winter" tires these days they have a snowflake wear indicator at about the depth the sipes end. I have put about 20K on these at this point, and the wear is more even than the AT3s. I will probably get about 45K out of the ATW.

I had put the set of AT3 back on this summer to run some more wear out of them. About 40K I started to have some vibration issues. One of the tires has a serious flat spot worn into it. This tire became a dedicated spare. I ended up taking the rest of the AT3 off a few weeks later as I needed a set of tires for a trailer.
