Easy answer:
iPods are "connected" to a PC running iTunes. iTunes controls the data, and you can download from that PC to up to 5 different devices (I think).

Harder Answer:
You can get data off an ipod, but it involves some work and PC work arounds. And may not be totally legal, depending on the files you're copying.

Yep, you can't go from ipod to computer. Only computer to ipod.

There are some ways to "hack" that, but if you are asking in a Wrangler forum about how to do it, its likely not going to be within you skill level. (Although I might be proven wrong of course)

I have a 5th gen. nano and running windows 7, my windows 7 sees the nano as a device and will allow me to import from it.

It is the same box that pops up when I import pics from my canon camera.

Might be worth a try......

Well this does not belong in the JK Wrangler section but....

In order to get the "iPod to PC" transfer to work you have to do a few things.
First you need to enable disk use on the iPod. its a setting in itunes under the summary tab of the iPod once plugged in to the PC.
Then you need to enable viewing of "hidden files and folders" its under control panel in the folder options section under the view tab (if I recall correctly). it will be a check box about 1/3 of the way down the options list.

from there you will go into "my Computer" open the iPod in the list and browse to the ipod control folder and in there is the music folder....
Thats the one you want... note though that the songs are in id3 tag format and look strange, you will need to import them back into itunes on the destination pc before the artist, album, etc. will be listed on the songs.
