That sucks Looks like a piece of the plastic base is still attached to your door, did that crack too? Before last summer I would swap mine from my full doors to tube doors several times each year and never noticed and problems. did you ever drill the drain holes in the base? Not that rain water should really do any damage to the Al right?

I'm glad I bought the RR mirror relo brackets when it was new. I hope they aren't made of the same cheapo pot metal. That's a major bummer!

Ya that all cracked. No I just bought the jeep and it never had drain holes drilled into it. But I just ordered a new set that I'm putting a drain in. I have no idea,my dad says if aluminum is submerged for a long time it will corrode quicker than steel will rust

I've not seen it personally, but there is at least one other thread that I've seen on this forum with the exact problem. Something about water getting trapped in the housing and not being able to drain out.

Ok that's scary does someone here have a pic of where a good spot to put the drains in it so that doesn't happen to me.

Probably far enough from the door so it doesn't make a rust stream on the door but as low as possible to get rid of all the water

This seems like the exact problem I'm running into. I can't get anything apart because I can't get the mirror post out of the bracket. I'd torch it but I can't get the plastic far enough back to do it without melting it. Makes me wonder if I should just order a 2nd set of mirrors instead of moving the OEM ones.

Noway

So glad I found this post, now I know I am not alone.
Same thing happened to me yesterday driving down a quite side street, my Jeep, (Wrangler, JK, 2007 Sahara) mirror fell off and slid down the road... In complete aw.
If you don't mind me asking where did you order your replacement mirror from? I contacted a local Jeep repair shop, have yet to hear back from them.
Thanks!

TJ here, but mine are corroded as all hell as well. Having a bit of experience in saltwater boats, I believe it's galvanic corrosion caused by dissimilar metals being connected to each other with no ground. Either ground the mirrors to a zinc plate somewhere or eliminate dissimilar metals touching with rubber coatings. The mirrors are aluminum and the doors are steel.
