Cruise control quit

Ill just describe what happened. I was on my way to work in my JKU. has 2.5 lift and 33's. speed limit is 75. It was a little windy and uphill so I was in 5th gear (Manuel tranny) and cruise was set at about 77. Then the cruise control just kicked off. I didn't hit the brake or the buttons on the wheel. The cruise light was still on on dash. And I waited a few miles and applied the cruise again. It worked fine.

So what the hell? Anyone have this happen? Think I should take to dealer since its new?

Mine does that on occasion, no idea why. Seems to happen if I hit a bump or a pothole. It doesn't seem like something to be concerned about, I've read about it happening to a couple of other people on here before.

I have a 2013 JKU sport s auto. Happened twice to me the other night doing 65 on a straight highway. I reengaged it and it was fine until it did it again about 35 minutes later. I think there was a small bump the second time it happened. Nothing happened for the remaining hour and a half I drove.

Mine does the same thing every so often on my way to work... I hit a certain bump on the highway and it kicks off.

I don't have a JK, yet. But, on my last two cars, the owner's manual says something along the lines of "cruise control will be automatically disengaged if traction control is triggered".

Windy or bumps with a lift might "scare" the computer just enough to kill the cruise control, even though you don't really notice it that much. Happen to notice if you got a flash of the TCS light when it happened? Any clues in the owner's manual along those lines?

I would expect that to cause the cruise control light in the dash to shut off though. Unless the cruise light is like my WJ, where it comes on when you turn cruise control on, but just having it be on doesn't mean that it is set.

Any time the traction control engages the cruise control will disengage. I'm sure this is most likely intended for snow/ice to try to get you to slow down, but a bump where the wheel gets some quick acceleration would have it thinking that your wheels are slipping and you need to slow down.

Also happens to me many times, sounds like a safety measure they took in case you hit something, lost control or felt asleep behind the wheel and drove off the road... this will deactivate the cruise control.
Can you imagine if your wheels are still spinning at a constant rate after you've hit something or went off road? many people don't have the quick reaction to turn it off manually....

That makes sense guys. Thanks for the heads up. And yes, if the cruise control light on dash is on you still have to set the speed.

I dislike that there is no light showing when the cruise it set. Just shows that it has been turned on.

I've had that happen a number of times. I've even had the TCS light come on and stay on in bad enough weather this last winter. It wouldn't reengage the cruise. I stopped at the next rest area, came back out, started the Jeep back up. The TCS light stayed on until I was a mile or two down the road. Then cruise worked fine.

Happened to me twice on my way to visit my sister. At first I thought maybe the bump bounced the clutch switch to disengage it. Then I thought maybe it's suposed to do that if you hit a bump, like if you go off the road at highway speeds I didn't think about traction control or stability control, but thats possible too. I didnt see my traction light come on at all. From the reading i've done I think it maybe an intentional safety feature.

This happens to me as well. On my commute home there is a certain small drop off where the bridge ends and road begins that causes it to turn off without fail if I am in the slow lane.

Yep. Had it happen twice in my 2012 JKU. Occured when I drove over a railway line at speed. Probably just enough slip to trigger the TC.

My cruise control will kick off any time traction is lost. Aka a bump, going to fast around a corner in cruise it kicks off as well...

It's a safety feature.
