Crunching Sound

Alright, I searched all over before posting this with no exact matches.

2014 sport S JK - 6 speed manual is making a strange noise (sounds like a crunching) coming from what sounds like the rear end at very very low speed and only last for a brief second and then disappears. An example is when in 1st and I first start to move you will hear it for about a second and a half and then it's gone! Same in reverse. Noise does not seem to be affected by any use of the clutch at all. Sounds more like it is coming from the rear end. Strange this is that I notice it more with the hardtop on than off...any ideas!? No mods to the suspension or tires, unfortunately!!

I know diagnosing this based off a description is prob impossible...just wanted to see if anyone out there had the same issue by chance and knew of a fix.

Thanks all!

Try this. Park your jeep on the flat and do not engage the parking brake. Now, start it up and see if the noise is gone. My 2010 had very poorly adjusted parking brake and it made noises when releasing. The odd thing was it would not really release until I moved. Once I found that I went in and did an E-Brake job on it and it was great.

E-brake, maybe?

I like it...will give it a go! I'm always on an incline so the e-brake is always on. Will find some flat land and just leave it in gear. Thanks for the info.
