Darn Plastic Bumpers!

I am not impressed with the stock plastic rear bumper on my '09 Wrangler Unlimited X. Was trying to put the soft top down by myself and stood on the rear bumper to reach the sunrider. When I did the top of the bumper "collapsed" and created a small little crease. Not a huge guy 190 lbs. I would have thought that the rear bumper on a JEEP was designed to withstand more punishment than that!!!

This is the only way to sell cars/trucks meeting the average CAFE standards..And rest assured that the bumpers will comply with the federal bumper standards..Read some more here

Slid down the Cherohala Skyway backwards and sideways on ice, gently bumping the guardrail:

90% of the vehicles out there, or more, have bumpers covered in plastic. The JK's bumper is metal under the plastic

I thought they went to that cheap bumper that was easy to remove on the JK on the theory that almost everyone goes with an aftermarket bumper anyway.

Yes, but Wranglers aren't 90% of vehicles and haven't had them in the past.
I'm just disappointed to see Jeep keep normalizing the Wrangler since I'll probably own a JK one day.

^I'm sure that's part of it- that's why they offer metal bumpers through Mopar Mark W.

i think there is something wrong with your bumber. my friend is more than 190lbs and he has to use my rear bumber to get into the back seat. he doesnt really fit in the passenger door because the seat doesnt slide forward enough. ive watched him get in and out of my jeep a bunch and every time there is a lot of flex in the plastic bumper but no creases or dents. just my 2 cents

I said that it was metal under the plastic, I didn't say that I liked it.

I know of every scrape, scratch and dent that happens when I go trail riding, for the life of me I can not figure out when I got this one.

You can easily pop that out by removing the bumper.

It'll do that if you look at it wrong.
The OE bumpers are carved from hard cheese.

Leave them in the sun without Armorall. Grate them and sprinkle liberally on your fresh al dente pasta with a delightful portabella mushroom sauce, garnish with parsley, and serve with a dry red Bordeaux.

Tom!

Nice lookin' front bumper! How much did it run you, and where did you buy it? Is the rear bumper a Tube Bumper too?

Thanks!

Cheers!

Thanks. It's a Rugged Ridge that I got from Quadratec for $299. I also just got a Rugged Ridge tow hook that I am putting on the front frame tomorrow to make up for losing the OEM tow hooks.

FYI. After standing on the bumper creating the crease, I took it to the dealership. Service Manager is a big Jeep guy - shook his head and had it replaced for me. Front bumper seems more stable but will be upgrading soon!!!
