Question DD practical mods for light trail riding

Hey Guys,

Here's my scenario, would love some advice from the veterans:

-It's my daily driver
-I have very few places/opportunities to take JK Sport S offroad, but for when I go:
-Looking to increase safety/protection factor
-Don't want to lose stock drive/feel
-Would like to keep warranties
-Don't need crazy tires, will replace stock after wear with something better
-Looking at budget lifts, additional skid plates, getting some Rubi rock rail take-offs from a friend
-Will not be installing myself
-On a very tight budget

Recommendations, suggestions, any and all honest advice desired. Maybe after reading so many threads, I'm worrying too much about protection when the vehicle is pretty capable out of the box (on light trails anyway).

For protection an EVAP canister skid plate, even for light offroading.

Budget lift kit with stock feel, can't go wrong with the Teraflex leveling kit.

Rubi rails are good, maybe add some ace rock rails in the future.

Once the stokers wear out through on some AT tires.

Good floor mats.
(The Rugged Ridge/Quadratec ones are very popular.)
Door sill guards.
Two examples of some basic protection that look and work great and you will see them every day when you use your Jeep, which doesn't hurt, believe me.
(Mine is a DD too.)
EDIT:
Throw some upgraded speakers in that sound bar too, you won't regret it one bit.

I know you mentioned light trail riding, but you purchased an extremely capable vehicle right out of the gate. The stuff I mentioned was really leaning towards the DD side.

Do the 2012's already have a skid plate on the evap canister? There is something around it for sure but I don't know if it's just a metal "box" or if it's really a skid plate.

Armor & recovery gear. Goodyear Duratracs are a good choice when time comes. They are excellent on and off road. Also highly rated in the snow.

Yes, I just checked with some threads. I've seen it under mine as well, but it is said to be a bit thin. Obviously, for my purposes, it's good. Any other specific things to protect down there?

On another note, I found this: Underneath the 2012 Jeep JK Wrangler - Page 2

According to this, any lift will cause problems 'down under'...

if your idea of offroading is simply hunting and atv trails, don't worry. maybe get a winch for if you get stuck in a mud puddle, but its very capable stock. although i always recommend getting some rock rails, just because anything you bounce over might nick up the rockers

Well- I'm getting some rubi rail takeoffs soon. There are a few relatively rocky trails I can get to occasionally and I ripped my air dam off last time I was there. Not that I give a 'dam' (yep) but it got me worried and I turned around last time.

I just don't have the opportunity to wheel/$ to go nuts, but am looking to make some minor improvements to be better prepared.

yeah, i recommend the rock rails not so much for rocks, but just because when you're off the paved road, you never know what you might drive over, and the evap and rocker panels are the two things pre-2012 that even a small rabbit could break, so its worth getting even if you just want to frolic in a field

For the budget minded, maybe the Synergy 1.75" spacers, VDP or RC stubby kit, some Rubi take off tires and some sway bar disconnects.

There are a few DIY Mods on this forum that will help Tay in a tight budget and address some of your areas.

Off the top of my head:
1: Ether remove the plastic cover on your stock from bumper, or after market stubby end caps. This is cheap and will improve your approach angle.

2. Front side marker lights can be Moded into your blinker system.

3. Add a pioneer / recovery system and mount to you tailgate or tire rack.

Odds are, if you like dirt track riding, you will enjoy Jeep wheeling. The mods that enhance wheeling are limitless.
