Dealer add-ons

O.K. I'm getting ready to finalize the paperwork on my new Rubi Unlimited. According to the website it goes into production next week. I'm trying to decide whether or not I need any of the "Value Added" items....the extended warranty is out. They've also got a ziebart package on there for about $450.00. I definitely don't think I need the fabric protection but does anybody have thoughts or opinions about the rust prevention/sound deadener? I've looked at a lot of threads and haven't seen anybody ranting about rust. Also, is anybody giving interest rates lower than 2.99%?

Chrysler has 0% for 36 months I believe. And I would forgo the ziebart.... sound deadener in a Wrangler is the craziest thing I ever heard of, nothing's going to make any difference in the sound, except trading it in on a Challenger...

Don't forget the useless added weight.

D'oh--I think the 0% is on 2010s only. Check Edmunds.com though, which will tell you the latest incentives/rates from Chrysler.

My understanding is that dealer add-ons are rarely, rarely worth their cost.

Ive actually heard that the sound deadner makes a huge difference in road noise on the hardtops.

You can just insulate the hardtop yourself, for under $50 bucks and it does more than all the "sound deadner" they can add UNDERNEATH !!

Unless, the NEW 2011/2012 are adding hardtop insulation, then it could be a good deal, but it'll still cost an arm/leg !!

The 2011's hard top is definitely quieter on road then the 2010. They added sound deadner.

I don't think 0% is available on the 2011, I think it's 1.99% for 36 months.

I think rust protection is a good idea, especially if you live in an area with road salt in the winter.

Thanks, guys. I've been trying to talk myself out of the ziebart package so unless somebody would've posted and said they got it and it's the bestest thing EVER I was probably gonna tell the dealer no thanks. I think I'll stick with the factory warranty at least until I get back stateside, then I'll decide if I need to get an extended warranty through MOPAR.
I had to fight with the dealer but I finally got him to accept the TL discount, plus $1250 in other discounts.

i dont know about u guys but my 2010 hard top is VERY quiet on the road even at 70+ MPH.

I don't know, maybe its from all the years driving around in a soft top or maybe since my 32'' tires aren't that big but to me I couldn't imagine my hard top being any quieter than it is

If your passenger can talk to you in low tones and has no trouble with a cell phone--especially with bigger MT tires-

I don't mean the 2010's are good and quiet, but the 2011 is noticeable quieter. It's hard to tell the engine is even running in the 2011 when u start it.. Jeep did list the sound deadener as an upgrade in the 2011s

no to add-ons... who is pushing it the salesperson or the finance manager..

they tried to add on everything for my 2011 too/ ext warrranty/ sound/ paint-int and ext. / maintenance converage / towing /et c.. If I would have purchased all the add ons- the price would have went up 3 or 4K... ( but they put them on a nice chart- with your payment plans... to try to see them easier.. .. ) I did not add anything... If you buy a new Jeep - you should be fine, IMHO.

good luck!

I wouldn't pay for any add-ons. My dealer tried to charge me for putting nitrogen in the tires, but I wasn't having it.

It was the salesperson, trying to be slick by adding it on and not saying anything. They're listed under the heading "Essential Items, Delivery, and Value Added Charges".

rust proofing, paint sealant, interior is all crap. just another way for the dealer to make more profit. Mopar has their own paint sealant, interior protection that is good for the 3/36 bumper to bumper, but I am a firm believer that wiping up spills, and waxing the paint is all you really need to do.

Maintenance could very well pay for itself if you buy it at the right price. 3/36 maintenance care plus(oil changes every 3000 miles, tire rotations, 30k service, etc) cost for the Chrysler plan is $500. It's really an individual choice, I don't do it on mine. I guess if you break down the 3 year cost of routine maintenance and see where that falls you will decide if it's worth it.
I figure $25 for oil change, so you have $300 in oil changes alone over 3 years, tire rotations are $30, so 6 of those in 3 years would be $180. 30k service is probably a couple hundred bucks, I guess in the long run it pays to buy it if you can get it for $500. I do my oil changes every 3000, some people on here do every 6000 so that's why I say it's an individual choice.

There are already quite a few threads on the ext warranty on here.
I am surprised the salesperson was the one presenting all of this, usually it's the finance person. Either way if you don't want it, just tell them no and be stern and nice about it. If they keep pushing it, just tell them you want to sign the paperwork and get in your new Wrangler asap.

In the midwest there isn't any special APR for the 2011 Wranglers. Best rate I have seen is 2.54 for up to 60 months thru BOA or Chase. Keep in mind thats a rate that requires excellent credit and an 80% loan to value. So out the door after taxes, title/license fees you have to finance 80% of invoice or less.

Yes I believe they do: Jeep claims the use of more sound-deadening material will make the cabin quieter this year.

Consumer Reports Cars Blog: 2011 Jeep Wrangler - Updated inside and out

I read somewhere else (can't find it now) that it's in the hard top. I assume that would include both the black, and colour matched tops.

Thanks, Pato. Buying a Jeep overseas through AAFES is a unique experience. The salesperson is here in Germany but the finance person is in New York. The local guy takes your order and passes it to the guy in NY. After the initial order if there are any changes I go see the local guy and he faxes stuff back to NY. It's supposed to be no-haggle military pricing but it didn't work that way for me. Their special pricing is below MSRP but higher than invoice. If they had it their way my Jeep would cost 40 grand. I think I'll tell the salesman y'all talked me out of all the value added items and prefer to just pay for the vehicle. Oh, yeah, he said it was going to have a pentastar in it, is that good?

Good post,Pat. when I first saw this thread .I thought "why the heck isn't Pat responding to this post?" Then I thought you might agree with pushing some of these bogus add-ons.but I am glad you feel that way about those add-ons,I too think they are a bad idea.

Keep up the good work Pat,and in a bit ,I will come and buy a "call of duty" or a rubicon from you.Ironically, I was at Dupage Dodge, getting my Jeep serviced last week. (Fields is a bit far for service). So I decided to talk to some of the sales reps that were there. They were telling me that an "Call of Duty" Jeep is the same as a Sahara.I thought that can't be right,it is more like a Rubicon than it is a Sahara, right???Well anyways,I didn't say anything ,and just walked away.I thought to myself ,I better stick with Pat Oc at Fields ,cause some of these young guys just don't know their product.

Out of curiosity, what is the earliest i could get out of a lease with no penalty or problems from chrysler?

They were wrong. The COD is, in fact, substantively exactly like a Rubicon. The only differences are that it adds some COD themed stickers as well as the wheels and many of the appointments from 2010's Mountain Edition.

If it's any consolation, when I was looking for my Jeep this summer, one sales guy told me that the soft tops have to either be up or down, there was no "half way." When I said "Sunrider" he looked at me like I was nuts, and said I'd be lucky if I didn't end up ripping the top off the Jeep on the highway.

Depends on the residual value, mileage and how many payments you have left. usually within 6 months. I had a customer who had 9 payments left but had low mileage so we bought his Wrangler from CFC and have it on our preowned lot.

Give me a call if you want to see about doing something sooner than later.

Just had Ziebart do my Jeep for $100 bottom sprayed with their "stuff"-2004 unlimited- in Virginia

Don't do it through the dealer or anything else other than car purchase--heavily marked up-you can usually ge the extended warranty at cost or $100 over if you negotiate that at time of purchase

Good Luck
