Dealership refusing to warranty axle seal

I had a reputable off road shop sleeve and gusset my axle. Now it's leaking oil a year later. I suppose the axle seal was damaged or its just leaking out of coincidence. Before I give up with trying to get the dealership to repair this with the warranty, has anyone else had a valid argument to getting this accomplished under warranty. 2012 jk with only 7000mi.

Good luck with it. They can come up with all kinds of reasons not to do it if they want, and they only need one.

After that kind of modification it would not even occurs to me to ask for warrant work.

It all depends on the dealer ship. But I would only have asked if I knew the dealership was friendly to moded jeeps.

Ask for the Manager then ask that individual for the warranty or the "in writing" where it says it's not covered because of mods. If nothing, then demand they fix it or ask for in they are on FaceBook, yelp etc...

If you put sleeves in then they pulled the shafts out to do it.Odds are they compromised the seal when putting the shafts back in.Had you left it stock you most likely wouldnt have a leak now.

It could be something as simple as the diff being overfull causing it to leak. The seals have cups infront of them and are not easily damaged when simply puting a shaft threw them.

Were they pressed in or did they have to plug weld the sleeves in OP?

Pretty much sums it up. I changed out the differential s in mine. I knew the warranty on the axles was gone when the shop pulled the covers.

Check the fluid first, if they need to be replaced then I wouldnt think they would be warrantied after being molested by the sleeves. New seals is pretty cheap.

I just had my first "real repair" to replace a rear axle seal in my own Sahara....and not a hint of possible warranty available....

after 52000 miles on a stock 08 I guess I should be satisfied.

Not sure how I'd feel about it if it were so much newer.

It's in the warranty manual.

Chrysler covers the jeep as it left the factory. Chrysler doesn't cover anything you changed, nor anything damaged by what you changed.

Sounds like the dealership has concluded this problem was caused by the original poster's mod or the installation of his mod.

That's not covered by chrysler's warranty.

It might be covered by the 4x4 shop's installation warranty, but not Chrysler.

Over filled diffs absolutely can leak, especially aftermarket covers :: cough :: G2

Both Dana 30 inner axle seals leaked and the pinion seal. Although I started a rant complaining about this installer for another issue.. They did replace the seals under warranty.

Might be something you may need to do out of pocket, but they're not expensive. I would never ask the dealer to fix it, it's not their problem.

Factory warranty only covers defective parts and workmanship, applicable to a factory authorized Dealer performing the repair.
Factory warranty doesn't cover back alley shops workmanship, why would you even think that it would? This is halarious.................

Time to leave the dealership immediately. They won't fix it for free (and really, they shouldn't have to) but they WILL fix it for way too much. Bring it back to the shop that installed it.

not their problem now.. they warranty the item as it left the factory... not what you did to it after.


go to the shop that did the "reputable" work.. as they caused your problem.

HaHa I get worried when my diffs STOP leaking. If they are leaking at least I know they still have oil in them.

This is too funny. I have another vehicle (91 M3) just like that. No matter how many times I replace the transmission input shaft seal, it leaks transmission fluid. Just learned to live with it...

Just a follow up guys. Perkins Chrysler Jeep in Colorado Springs took care of me and replaced both seals. They have my business from now on.

I would have taken it back to the installer, but moved out of the state a few months ago. The dealership was very kind in fixing this.
