dealership trying to throw a curve on me

Hi,

I received my new vehicule last yesterday and we had a verbal agreement to have a 3.73 gear ratio in it so to be sure I ordered the max tow package.

When i picked the vehicule, a custom made tow package was installed on it so i was asking myself if a 3.21 gear ratio was in it.When i received the vehicule, I asked him the question and he answered that the vehicule has the 3.73. The build sheet was nowhere to be found so i called chrysler Canada to get it and guess what .....3.21. $#%#$%?%?

I need advices to correct the situation.

Should i keep the same vehicule and ask for a regear at the dealership ?
Should i ask for a new vehicule
should i do nothing ( worth the trouble ? ? )

thanks.

Do you have proof in writing that you ordered the max tow package?

No. i checked the contract and all options are listed as "others".Maybe i can ventilate this amount. However, i mentionned it to him several times.

I suspect a desire to get rid of the 2012 badly. I had installed the black leather katzikin at no extra cost over the factory leather and also got the black altitude wheels for free. I like the vehicule.

The only thing i dislike is the lugging transmission problems on my auto between 2nd and 3rd gear. It feels like when the auto shifts to 3rd, it does not continue to accelerate even if my pressure on the gas pedal is the same. Also, when i drive at 50 km/h, it hunts for a gear so there is no power available.it drops down to about 1000 rpm. stupid. The speed limit in Quebec is 50km/h in city so that is a big problem for me.

Is this mostly caused by the shitty 3.21 gear ratio ?

there are more than a few other features/specs that come along w/ the factory tow/max tow package that make it one of the better deals on the option list, I cannot name them all but i think it adds a trans cooler, and the anti-sway control, and like you mention axel ratio, amongs other. i am sure someone else will/can step in and name them all. I hope you get this straghtened out, but i think with only a verbal they may stick it to you.....

i have the transcooler.

On another note, i checked ventilated the amount of options and can clearly see that they charged me the tow package. I may be screwed.

If you took possession of the vehicle, you may have no recourse. Chalk it up to lesson learned.

Still worth discussing with the sales manager.

I spent months trying to find one that had everything I wanted, as well as the 3.73. I went through about 4 dealers that were trying to unload a 3.21 on me because "why do I need a 3.73 anyhow?" It's astounding to me how many dealers out here try to convince you what you do or don't need for such a large purchase based on what they have.

I have the max tow, and love it. It was a deal breaker for me, and I had to give up a limited slip rear diff for it as I couldn't find one with every option I wanted in the trim I wanted. Our Wranglers don't tow much to begin with, hamstringing them with a 3.21 just seems like it might not be worth having a hitch on it to me.

Its about compromises unless you build it at the beginning of the year. I also ended up with side curtain airbags, and an Alpine speaker system that I hadn't planned on getting or paying for, but the sound system ended up being really nice as well.

Don't settle, I love everything about my Jeep except the lack of the LSD, and I'll probably be putting that in myself this or next winter as a result. With that said, if you love what you have, you can always regear if you want it bad enough as well.

Definitely...and if they aren't responsive, take it the chain. It may not make a difference, but at least you'll know you tried.

Stick to your guns and tell them you want the gears replaced or a new vehicle. It's your money and your ride. You upheld your part -- ask for the same from the dealer.

100% agree.

If it was me I'd likely push for the new vehicle over a re-gear. I'd bet re-gear jobs at the dealer are not that common and I wouldn't want them doing work that they rarely do on my rig. I also wonder if you could end up with a warranty issue down the road if you had problems related to the re-gear. As in your Jeep is shown built with 3.21 and they see it has 3.73 or 4.10 that doesn't match the build and call it custom work not under warranty.

If you end up letting the dealer do the re-gear document, document, document.

If you have nothing in writing specifying the 3.73 gearing and only a "verbal agreement", you have no recourse. When you took delivery of the Jeep, the dealer had you sign a document effectively stating that you agree to purchase the Jeep that was delivered to you and without further equipment.

Do you have a build sheet when you ordered it from the factory or did the dealer say 'they'd order' something?

Unless the GSM is willing to acknowledge that you wanted the factory tow package and not an aftermarket 'tow package', you're going to have an uphill legal battle to prove your claim and assert it. It would cost you thousands of dollars.

Really? I drew the opposite conclusion. I knew that I was getting a 4.10 rear axle because it was on the window sticker of the one that I found on a lot. I had to drive 70 miles and pass a dozen other Jeep dealership on the way, but there wasn't one closer configured that way with the other options that I wanted. I didn't lay out a dime until I was staring at one with a 4.10 rear.

Do you have any emails with the salesman? That may help. But I would at least try to get what you want. But since you got all the extras that you like, might be worth keeping if you're not towing all the time. Bigger tires should get rid of the 50km/hr problem.

Go over your dealership's head and Call Chrysler Jeep USA directly and force them to rectify this. You spent a large sum of money and trusted the dealership in good faith. Stick to your guns and fight for it. It might take effort on your part but don't quit. You deserve to be happy whenever you step in your vehicle.
