Dealerships can be such a joke...warranty inspection...

I purchased my JK Unlimited (brand new) in 2008 from Dealership A, obviously during the lifetime powertrain warranty promotion.

Fast forward 5 years later.......

It's time to bring it in for the 5 year warranty inspection. This is when they tell you all of these things you need to do in order to "pass inspection" so that your warranty continues.

I drop off my Jeep and return a couple of hours later. The gentleman in the service department proceeds to tell me that my Jeep does not have the liftetime powertrain warranty. Of course, this shocked me and I quickly corrected him. But, he stood firm. I'm now trying to get someone on the phone at Dealership A (where I bought it).

Anyone else heard of such debauchery? I've got documentation in my glovebox regarding the warranty. Wasn't that promotion widely known in 2008?? Am I an idiot or is this guy severely misinformed?

And yes, I'm the original owner.

Do you have something in writing saying you have a lifetime warranty?

I've got all of the paperwork that I had when I brought it home the first day. I'm almost 100% that I've got an entire booklet regarding the warranty. I just spoke to the dealership where I purchased it and she has asked me to contact Chrysler.

You sure it was a chrysler warranty they sold you? Most dealerships try to get customers to buy the scam 3rd party warranties first because those have larger kickbacks to the dealership.

I didn't buy anything. It was included at the time of purchase. It was a big promotion back in 2008, etc.

I have heard this on the 2007. I wasn't sure if it was on the 2008.

If you want to email the last 8 of your VIN and the current odometer I can email back what warranty coverage you have right out of Chryslers system.

You have to prove that you maintained your vehicle & you have a certain amount of time to bring it in for the Lifetime Powertrain Inspection. If you don't bring it in within that time they can cancel your warranty. See this is where it pays to read all that fine print. Theres a reason all that fine print is in there. i have yet to fail a car on any PTI ( power train inspection ) I have performed yet. If they have any drivetrain l;eaks in need of repair they are usually covered under the warranty. You need to look at it from the manufacturer's side cause they can't just warranty something w/o any questions asked. You have to keep up with routine maintenance & keep a record of it. If you do that & cover your arse then you have ammo for the fight that they can't deny.

Go to the jeep owners website and download the warranty manual for your specific year. They're surprisingly short and simple.

Jeep has only offered lifetime powertrain warranties on a few years of wranglers. My 2010 for example only has a 5 year powertrain warranty.

The lifetime powertrain warranty is the only one of the manufacturer warranties that cannot be transferred. As an original owner, that's not an issue for you.

If the 2008 Chrysler warranty manual reflects a lifetime powertrain warranty, then you win.

Right, that's what I'm in the process of doing now. I'm in the "time window" for the inspection, that's what I took the Jeep to the dealership for on Friday. I haven't failed any inspections.

I received a mailing from Chrysler reminding me to get the inspection, it came about 2 months prior to the time frame I needed to get it done.
