hmmm good question. I didnt even try. I wasnt looking to buy a Jeep when I went to the dealership back in July. They had a purdy dealer-lifted yellow X on the lot that I stopped to look at. While I was there, I saw a Rubi on the lot and said I would take it. I'm not reallly sure what prompted that... its really hard for the dog to get in the back, my fiancee doesnt like stepping up into it and it cant pull my boat.. but I do like having a new Wrangler

Sticker was worth it to me.. it put me into a Rubicon in late 2007 when there were not many around and I've been modding it since.

I would suggest you try if it is a vehicle on the lot, but they way the appear to be selling, I would not be suprised if they dont budge much.

I depends how good you are, how badly does the salesman want to sell that car, and how many they have in stock. If they only have 1-2 jeeps, they will not drop the price.

Also, be sure to check out a high volume dealer. They are less likely to include mark-ups as the vehicle will sell whether you buy it or not. Some dealerships want the volume so they will sell it at lower prices without mark-up.

The saturday before Father's day the dealer I bought my Jeep from had a special $5,000 off MSRP. I had went there a week before and saw the sticker price, saw the add and went back. The sticker price was the same.

The sticker price for my bone stock 4X4 was $22280. I got mine for $17,280. No haggling or agueing. Took about an hour and out the door I walked...keys in hand.

IMO I'd loose sleep buying someone elses vehicle. Well one I cared about anyway. I couldnt buy a used Wrangler, seeing how people beat the sh*t out of them offroading. I'd pay the price to know I'm the only one who offroaded it....

Yeah, I agree with that. I've only got used cars when I've known their history. Otoh, I know all the tricks that dealerships use and the lies they tell. I'm not interested in being conned out of my hard earned money.

Now if I won the lottery that would be a different story. =P

I have never EVER seen a "granny" drive a wrangler.

ETA: For the OP

I never had to haggle with the salesman. The company I work for has a 1% under cost discount. I got my $24,000 jeep for $21,000 without breaking a sweat.

That's exactly why any of us who have purchased used Wranglers spend six months or more looking at all the beaters before we find the one. In my case it was purchased from his best friend for his daughter to run back and forth to Cal Poly. 1st owner 35k miles, second owner 20k. Not a single scratch underneath. The ex-boyfriend did all the damage. 1. Attemptred to change the battery with one cable still attached (dribbled acid down the paint). and 2. Screwed the right door window zipper.

Cool

My dealer could not find the wrangler with the options I
wanted any place with in 10 states so I ordered it in late
May. They gave me a good price but being a very small
dealer in a very small town it has not arrived yet. I wnated
to buy from my local dealer as it will be serviced there. The
next closest Jeep dealer is 57 miles away and they would rather
sell Dodge, Toyota, and Chevy. It appears it should get here
in late November, a long time comming but there were options
that I wanted so my attitude is just to relax it will get here
some day.

They are out there you just gotta find them.

Mine was a garage stored weekend pavement pounder that really didn't do much pounding.

Nice find for a 98 eh? No a granny dident drive it but might as well have.

Not a scratch on her and nothing wrong with her but a 98 recall problem in the dash that the guy had the wiring to fix it from the dealer but didn't know how to take the dash off to fix it so he just kept the new wiring stored away. (30 min fix)

And the gas gauge is off from sitting for very long periods of time without driving it.

I lucked out finding my jeep, I might as well have bought it back in 98. ^_^

If you want a JK buy a JK, I just dont trust binaryKing, I mean car dealers.

I'm pretty sure that you can service your jeep anywhere you want? It doesn't have to be the same dealership that sold you the car. It doesn't even have to be a Jeep dealership. Right? Or am I screwed for doing service on my "leased" Jeep all by myself?

Wow that is pretty hard to believe considering that there is only about 800 bucks of markup in a wrangler sticker price to begin with.

Here, we're having a hard time keeping wranglers on the lot. They go out as soon as they come in. Sometimes I sell them before we even get them. I tell them what we have coming and then they give me a deposit. I can't imagine any dealership letting one go for that price. We usually will give 500 of the markup back so that you're paying about 300 above invoice. Which is pretty fair, considering that we could sell them all at sticker price if we needed to.

Some dealerships are lifting them with cheap lifts and then jacking the sticker price another 4000.

Unless you are buying a brand new model with 5 miles on the meter, you're out of luck.

Although you buy a jeep from the dealer #1 it doesn't mean you're the first owner of it, #2 it doesn't mean the previous owner hasn't abused it. The only thing you get when you get it from a dealer is safer money transfer and a warranty if you're lucky but for that you pay the price difference as private vs dealer.

Mine was 13 500 in the ad and we got it down to 12 750.

If you are not satisfied with the price, feel free to leave.

Seryoga, you should be able to service your Jeep at any Jeep/Chrysler dealer but usually other dealers will try to rip you off. For me, i had a leaky radiator. I went to my local Chrysler dealer and they said i have to pay the money to find the leak first (75$ flat rate) and then they will only cover the price of replacing the radiator. I went to the dealer i got my rig from and they did everything for free.

Yeah thats what I ment....Personaly I'd only feel comfortable buying brand new vehicles. Im sure you can find well taken care of Wranglers, they do exist. But imo as far as Wranglers go I'd pay the price for a brand new Wranglers especialy because of the things people do to them.....Buying a used Wrangler with 20,30,40,000 thousand miles on it,and knowing that was abused a time or two or eight, from a stanger bothers me.....

My point is buying a used wrangler is like buying a wrangler from a private seller with a middle man in between them.

i think im lost with your point....
Any used Wrangler raises a red flag for me. Wether it was bought at a dealer or a private owner. (unless I knew the private owner really well) That is my point in a nutshell. Not saying its right or wrong, its just how I feel....

If you buy a used Wrangler from a dealer. It's been used by some one else (another person and then sold to the dealer by that person). It happens to be sold from the private seller to a dealer (obviously ripped off price) and then from the dealer to you. So the dealer is just a "middle man".

Agreed just because someone buys a used Wrangler doesnt make it any better. Yes, your probably better off buying used from a private owner, and skip the middle man (dealership) and avoid the dealers ripoff price markup......

it helps when you have a friend thats the financial director of the dealership...out the door with mine(lift and all) right around $19K. but just keep haggling...you'll find out your limits.

I agree, it's hard to find a car salesman that will give you a discount like that. I'm not sure they even exist. But yeah, they all lie. Otherwise they couldn't sell vehicles! lol Car companies employ psychologists to learn how best to sell vehicles, then they train their sales people on tactics. It's not illegal, they are just trying to make money. But people know that when they go to a stealership. Don't deny it.
