Deals on 2012 Leftovers? What to expect?

I've never bought a new vehicle before, so I am curious about the deals that can be had when the lots are cleared for the next year's models. Obviously tread lightly should get any member the vehicle at least 1% below invoice. Will dealers go much lower than that on remaining 2012s?

I'm not very picky. I want a base sport to modify up. I'd be happy with many of the colors, common colors like black and silver included. The must have options for me are common (Automatic, A/C at minimum, connectivity group preferred). With that in mind, I should be able to find 2012s that meet my desires for a little bit longer. I just don't know what to expect as far as clearance deals go.

My experience was no, dealers aren't willing to blow out Wranglers - they just sell too well. Go with a 2013 IMO.

Last year they were offering around $4500 on the '11s JKUs. This was mid-August and the new Pentastar and 5 speed were just hitting the showrooms. Still if you looked, you could get ~ $3000 off sticker on a new '12 JKUR (which I did). I looked at 6-8 dealers, so you might do some homework, but it's pretty easy.

They were blowing out the 11's due to the high hold out rate of people waiting for the 12's with the Pentastar. I was one of them.

OP, don't expect any exceptional deals on leftover 12's. They sell too well.

Thanks for the responses. I'll send a few emails to dealers, but I won't get my hopes up for extreme discounting.

Shop around for sure. There are a few dealers close to me in the middle of no where that tempted me. I opted for a 13 though due to a few new changes.

I just paid MSRP for a 2012 Unlimited Altitude. I am in DFW. Could I probably have saved a little shopping around? Sure, but it's such an ass whip....."initial here if I you'll buy....."

They did give me 2000 more then I owed on my 2010 Unlimited Sahara with 45,000 miles.

My dealer was all too willing to order and sell me a 2013. Plenty of '12s [Sports, Saharas, and Rubicons] on the lot and not one "deal" to be had. Some of their Jeeps had been sitting on the lot for months. Their sales logic escapes me, but now I have a '13 coming.

MSRP on my '12 JKU Auto Rubicon was $40,175. I paid $35,900 + tax and lic just a little over two weeks ago. Several dealers have been calling me wanting to sell me a jeep. They didn't know I had already bought one. Deals are there, play hardball and get your price

Options:
Connect
Max tow
Front side air bags
Auto
Temp control
Heated front seats
3-piece hard top
730N
Remote start

Good Luck!

I did a little number crunching on this and factoring an MSRP of $40,175 the invoice was probably right around $37,440. That is about 4% below invoice. I'm an admitted rookie to buying new, but that sure sounds like a great deal!

I searched the State of NH looking for the right one, the 2012 inventory is really low here. I finally found one that would work, but the dealership knew they had the upper hand with their inventory and offered no deals. Plus to make matters worse the really lowballed me on my trade in. I ordered a 2013, and now I'm waiting for them to build it. At least I will have every thing I want and the dealership I ordered with gave me a great value on my trade in.

Jusst bought a gecko green 4 door sport "loaded" Sticker was $30305.00 and I paid $26500.00 no haggle at Ed Voyles Jeep. They had 100 unlimiteds in stock, and gave me awesome trade in on my 2010 mountain. Very professional, and will buy from them again!!!!

i got 11% below invoice price between the Chrysler Discounts and the preferred pricing I get through my work from Chrysler. Was still able to negotiate 10 free oil changes on top of that, so for sure, aim for 10% below invoice!

I have been in contacts with many dealerships over the past month. It is really hit or miss, some are priced way higher than others and refuse to negotiate (which is ridiculous) some are priced well and will still negotiate a good amount, some say they don't negotiate and then you just tell them your price or you are walking and then the seem to want to negotiate

I think it depends on where you live as the dealers in the Buffalo, NY area seem to sell Wranglers like crazy. I got about $1500 off sticker and a deduction for the Connectivity package on the one I bought but the 2 Jeeps I had looked at previously were sold within a few days of them showing up on the lot last month. Considering 2008 X's are going for $20-22k with 50k I'm happy with paying $24k for a brand spanking new 2012 Sport!

I should add that I couldn't really wait for a 2013 as my inspection was due at the end of July and I would have had to spend about $1200 to do the brakes and replace all the tires on my 99 TJ so it would pass. I consider that $1200 money SAVED so I guess I technically only paid $23k for my 2012 that stickered for $27k.

I bought my '12 JKUR from Moritz in Ft. Worth back in Nov. for 1% under invoice.

I know I probably could have gotten a little better of a deal, but sometimes time is worth more then money. Plus, would have had to deal with the hassle of getting BOTH bike and Jeep to other dealers, etc.

I'd already lost most of a day in a "st"ealer, didn't want to waste another.

2012 JK sport. I called dealerships with high volume deals and told them I was willing to pay 20,000 flat. Color didn't really matter except for the obnoxious orange or greens and that the only two requirements I had was it had to be a manual and a hard top. Got a call three weeks later for one that was black, with 3.73's. Woodhouse in Omaha is where I bought mine.

I just came back from one of the local dealers...where I test drove a 2012 Rubicon 2 Door.

MSRP: $35,785 (with delivery fee)
Dealer Discount: -$4,179
Adjusted Price: $31,606

For these options:
  • Connectivity group
  • Power Convenience Group
  • Dual Top Group
  • 5 Speed Auto Trans
  • UConnect 430N

It had 10 miles on it...30 after I parked it. They had Deep Cherry Red and two Light Silvers...all for that price with those options. Seemed like a good deal to me....but still thinking about it.

The reason is as you probably already know is because the dealer is paying interest on all vehicles on the lot. The longer the vehicle has been on the lot, the more money the dealer has had to pay out of their pocket for that jeep to sit there. On a new 2013 order, sometimes you can get a better deal because there is no acquisition fee. It goes from the factory to you and the dealer is just a go between.

I purchased a 2012 Sahara Unlimited yesterday from a dealer in Rockwall Texas for $4020 off sticker. It listed at $36020.00 and I gave them $32000.00 after explaining five times that that was all I was paying for that Jeep. I did let them get to me for 217.00 for document fees. I am very happy with the deal but wish I could find time to go pick it up. The build is exactly what I would have ordered except for the White finish in place of Flame Red which is now unavailable. A dealer in Oklahoma City is selling all Wranglers at 3000.00 off sticker but did not have anything I was interested in. A Tulsa dealer was giving 1000.00 off and I told him where he could stuff that. If you shop you can get a deal and if you have seen the 2013s the nice looking seats don't make up for the mug ugly wheels on the Saharas or Rubicons. However,my seven spoke polished are still available on the 2013 Sahara but I am sure they will be hard to find unless you special order.

A dealer had $3000 off tags on all the Wranglers on the lot and when I went in to talk he then told me all the 'fine print' that makes up the $3000 discount. It was made up of a plethora of insane requirements and was far from a straight $3k off.

If a dealer shows you the invoice, do you really think they are going to sell it for 4% below invoice and not make it up somewhere else. What was your finance rate?

I live in upstate NY and dealers weren't budging; these literally fly off the lot as soon as they come off the truck. It's crazy to hear that there are dealers with 100's of these on the lot as the dealers in my area have 1 if any.

I actually wound up getting one dealer who sold my brand of trade to agree to buy it wholesale from my Jeep dealer allowing me to still get the tax benefits on the price differential. They bought it for $2500 over book ($3500 more than I owed) and then I got the Jeep dealer to agree to sell at invoice (I couldn't wait 30 days for Tread Lightly for this deal), so I gave up a couple hundred bucks with foregoing the 1%. The dealer worked with me and I had no problem throwing him a couple bones for his efforts.

I got a little better than 5 % under invoice on a 2012. 0% financing with no fees. I bought mine about a month ago...

It took walking out once, but I didn't have time to get the deal done that day anyway. They called me back and the salesman told me the sales manager said not to let me walk away. I ended up paying exactly what I offered. Who knows maybe they would have come down even a little more...

MSRP on my 2012 Sport was $26,020. I paid $24,020 a week ago, which was close to invoice, and slightly below Edmunds TMV number, so I was quite satisfied. It had the four options I wanted, and was the color I wanted (silver).

I didn't try to haggle lower because I thought that the deal was fair. They did try to push me to finance through them, but my credit union had a deal to beat any rate down to a floor of 1.8%, and since I have good credit, I got the 1.8 rate - they couldn't beat it.

Most of the dealers I looked at simply don't have much for inventory of 2012's at this point, so it was more of a matter of finding what I wanted, than working a deal.

A dealer with vehicles sitting on the lot for months is losing money by carrying all those vehicles. If they want to not deal, that is their business, but a modern Jeep museum is rather pointless.

Bought a 13 JKUR 3% under factory invoice and the dealer dropped the $599 dealer fee. No trade and no finance.
