I have a new 2017 willys and would like to add some decals to it (small and large stars) My question is about wax build up. The last vehicle I had with any type of decals was a 85 monte ss ....and wax always built up in those area's
I live in Ohio and it's winter here so I have not been able to hand wash-n-wax . So I'd like to know other ppl's experience on it.
I never had any issues with my Rubicon regarding wax build up on the lettering. On the 85 SS that I had, I used a soft bristle detail brush since those old Montes were loaded with decals. That would also work on a JK. Should have never sold the SS.
OP do you mean build-up after successive applications? Or do you mean around the edges of a decal during the application? If its around the edges while your removing the haze a thumb nail wrapped in the removal cloth will do it, so will a soft bristle brush. If it's after numerous applications... wash it with Dawn dish washing detergent, and it will strip the surface clean of old wax. Then you'll have a nice clean surface for the new wax.
For me, I gave up wax years ago, and switched to Zaino polish. It's a little pricey but it lasts longer and out shines wax big time. Plus, it's like adding a teflon coating to the surface. Things... bug splats, road grime, etc, are more easily removed from it after a couple of coats.
