Hey everyone, clearly a new guy here (as you can see my low post count), but I recently purchased a 2014 unlimited sport and I'm looking for advice/suggestions on a lift kit. The unlimited is pretty much my DD and I want to do a little off road. Budget, I'd like to keep it under $500-$600 for the kit, also would like 2.5-3" lift. Along with your kit suggestions, perhaps mention other random items that I may need with the kit. Thanks in advance

For that budget forget coils and go with a 2-2.5" spacer lift. Cheap coil lifts are expensive and a headache in the long run, so don't fall for those ads with dozens of parts for a low price. The kit should include everything you need.

Read some of the numerous threads on 2.5" lifts.

I would just do a basic spacer lift until you have a higher budget. For a well setup suspension I would advise at least a budget of $1,000.

Tera Flex JK Wrangle 2.5 inch Performance Budget Boost W/Shocks (1255200)

Carry some zip ties and standard tools in your Jeep so that you can remove the front sway bar as needed. Takes about two minutes each side (its redneck but it works until you have money for disconnects).

I would not look at a $500 lift that includes shocks. If you dont want spacers try the Teraflex 2.5 coil plus shocks of your choice - I believe the lift itself is in the $500 range.

Or wait until you can beef up your budget.

Why are you lifting to begin with? What size tire will you run? You can run a 33 with no lift and maybe just a body boost for appearance.

Checkout the lift and tires threads on the Tech Sticky in this forum.

I went with a rubicon Express the kit ran me say 400 with exhaust spacer kit no shocks. I decided to go with 5100 bilstiens all 4 ran me just over 300.00 this gained me 2.5 in lift. The kit was easy to install I did it by myself in a few hours. Hardest part was getting to the top nut on the front springs.

So it seems that the majority thinks to stay away from kits in the 5-600 range that includes shocks. Loud and clear. I'll keep looking through the threads and weigh my options. Does anyone know of any problems that may occur from running a spacer kit? Or if there is any particular parts that I should get with a spacer kit to prevent any problems

The teraflex spacer kit is pretty complete if I'm not mistaken. And yeah the general consensus is you get what you pay for. The downside to spacer lifts is of you start adding weight (bumpers, skids, etc) your still riding on your factory coils and they tend to sag after a little while.

Another solid option would be the teraflex 2.5 with shock extensions. You could always pick up a set of Rubicon shock for cheap used in the future and have a nice setup there.

I agree with mommy tho what size tire u looking to run? If its 33s then it sounds like the rancho 2 inch sport lift or a simple leveling kit could be perfect for u.

Never heard of this being an issue (anything is possible tho) I wouldn't worry about it tho plus if it happens I would have to think most companies would probably replace them for u.

Well if u want to be prepared for them then a coil lift is what you want. There are still ways to go about this and start reasonable and add onto it. One example would be like I said before tf with shock extensions. You could add on aftermarket shocks as money becomes available. Really u could go that route with pretty much whatever spring kit u want to run. I would not go much past 2.5 if your going with 33s anything past that is probably gonna look pretty small. Also keep in the budget either new wheels or spacers.

There are plenty of good options for running 33s I would suggest reading some threads and looking at some pictures.

You can get e terraflex 2.5" spring lift with shock extensions for under $500 and later when you have the money get a set of Rancho 9000 shocks and you will have an amazing complete lift for a great price.Waite on the Rancho rebate for the shocks.Starts in September I think.

I forgot to add that I heard but I am not 100% sure that Rubicon labeled shocks are in fact bilstien 5100`s. I was told this when I ordered my kit but I am not 100% sure this is true. Maybe someone can confirm or deny but if it is true my same kit with shocks would of been 540.00 instead of the 6 something I paid to buy separate.

be careful

I’d be careful getting a lift on a budget, when it comes to a lift you get what you pay for, you may get the look of a lifted jeep but that's about it. There’s a reason people have spent so much time and money engineering lifts that keep you jeep safe on and off road.

just a thought.
