Deer front end protection.

I have decided to keep my factory bumper and tow hooks. Just got a couple of 20 ft straps and a heavy duty come-along. OK for me, main obstacle is logging road mud holes. I am looking for a sturdy grill guard for highway trips to northern Wisconsin. Have not seem any that look strong enough. Will probably mount driving lights on it too. Any bolt on ideas.

Incidently, (I'm a new site user) I have a 2008 Rubicon two door automatic.

JC Whitney has a grille guard capable of warding off deer attacks ... It is made by Aries and sold under the Garage Pro name. Or You can also buy it directly from Aries.

I have hit deer a few times, your gunn a see damage regardless, may minimize with study stinger type bumper, or end up having deer on a stick for dinner :-)

Just looked at the one from Aries. Most stout one I have seen for use with factory bumper. Thanks so much JT Photo JK. Should make me feel better at 55 on a dark and lonely northwoods highway.

I had that grill guard and changed it out. It didn't feel sturdy enough to win a head to head fight with a deer.

I like the look of the second one.
I just picked up my Sahara and live next to a large Forrest preserve. I had to dodge my first deer this morning. I need to install a guard.
I have so many deer by me I could hang a salt lick in my garage and always have meat for the table.

It's actually an Aries Modular, I have it on both front and back. THIS bumper will win a head-butting contest with a deer.

I have no doubt that the second one is much stronger norsepole, but since I spend 80% of my time on urban roads, I think I'll stick with the grill guard for now. I'm saving up for a Scamp fiberglass 10ft travel trailer to pull up north. Only 1200 lbs empty and should pull well with the JK. Later, I'll post a new thread about the best auto transmission coolers.

No problem, the grill guard IS lighter (about 50lbs). As long as a deer contacts you at or below the stock bumper height, the damage would be minimal. Above the bumper though and I think the way it's designed would force the grill back into into the radiator, that's why I changed it. Just my opinion though.

Good luck and I look forward to your trans cooler comparisons, I'm looking in that direction myself.

That grille guard will do its job even if contacted higher up. The guard will protect the Jeep by absorbing the impact and deflecting the deer to the side. You may loose a fender but it will protect the grille and hood. Your only other option is a full steel bumper like the Genrite which has full grille area protection and even that will bend if you hit a deer. Anything in front of the grille is better then nothing at all when it comes to bush rats.

The Aries bumper is OK but its not going to stop a deer from taking out the grille and hood. If your looking for maximum protection the Genrite bumper is your best bet.

Ooooh shiny. Kinda looks like a football helmet face mask for jeeps. THAT looks like deer protection there.

I think a stinger front bumper would be the best for deer.
Just my 02.

You know this thread is 7 months old, right?

On a forum, that's like dog years.

Not sure which bumper you were asking about, but here's a link to the Aries modular that norsepole posted a photo of above.

It is indeed an Aries bumper. I have front and back and I love it. Solid and sturdy like a tank.

This thread is then a zombie thread I guess? What once was dead now lives again, revived as some perversion of forum nature.
