Defect on black top.

So I picked up my 2013 JKUR on Monday night (today is Friday) an while waiting for the kids bus, I finally had a minute to look at the rubi under the sun and noticed this defect on my driver side black top, next to the rear window on top of the gas cap. Called dealer and they mentioned I will have to bring it in.

You are right. But after paying over $30k for a vehicle. This should be happening off the lot.

I will probably do that if it becomes a pain in the a$$. I'm afraid it will keep peeling off. Can that happen?

That's not a defect. Something or someone rubbed againts it to the white underneath. Maybe someone with overalls and heavy duty metal whatever, leaned against it while filling it up..

I had a scratch on my top same deal, day after picking it up, noticed it in the sun, 10 dollars and a life time supply of hard top paint and solved the problem, no one the wiser.

this: 68060405AA (Jet Black) Pen hard top touch up paint

scratch and immediately after applying it. once full cured, never know its there

Is that a mopar part number? I'm going to to the dealer in a few. I could ask them to give me one of those. I think I rather do that than take the top off to mess with it... I don't know...

I have a few "light spots" on my hardtop as well. I figured it may be something that causes the paint to peel but I brought it in and they told me to just keep an eye on it. It hasn't gotten any worse and I don't think it's something serious. I'm pretty sure Chrysler offers some sort of touch-up kit for these types of things.

I was a little ticked that I noticed it when mine was fairly new, too...

Yes that's the mopar part number its a small tube with a pen/brush combo applicator. Really looks like someone rubbed that area on your roof, not only the bare spot but beyond that, or did you wash it or do something? No need to take the roof off, just tape up the area and spray it. The touch up paint for the hard tops come in a rattle can as well. A few light coats and you're done. Let the dealer do it for you while you wait and give you the pen/brush tube for free for your troubles.

I got the mopar pen and brush combo after I gouged my top, but it didn't match the best. The touch-up paint had a little more grey to it. I also found out that it isn't just a straight forward black either, however. I have read on a couple of posts that the spray matches in better. I can't speak from experience on that however.

I would use the MOPAR spray part# 68060406AA. It will lay a whole lot better then painting it on like nail polish.

Why is everyone only posting the 0.5oz bottle part number?

Personally, I think it looks like detail may have left the degreaser on to long, or tried the wrong chemical, and when rubbing it off the top it started taking the paint. Those tops don't have the best paint. They seem to be more fragile then I would like.

Same happened to me. 2013 JKUR.
Second day after I got it, I went to apply protection on plastic parts, got on step ladder and discovered 4 inch white scratch on the top of my roof.
Took sharpie and fixed the problem (rather then going back to dealer).
Truth be told, I rather have a scratch on top of the roof then on the side.

I really scuffed up my top putting it back on for the winter. I tried the brush, but there were too many chips and scratches all over. I did a really shitty job and now I have no choice but to paint the entire top. Dealership says between $300 and $600 to paint the entire top. That's just insane, like 1/4 the price of a new mopar top.

Seriously, with that price I would just buy several of the MOPAR 5 oz cans and spray the thing myself. Their only $10.85 a can. WAY better then that quote!
