Diameter of JK roll bar?

I would like to install a fire extinguisher in my 2010 JK. What is the diameter/size of the roll bar? I need to know in order to buy the proper size bracket/clamp.

Jim answered you but I just wanted to mention that I will be doing the same soon. I hope when you get her nailed down you share what you did with the forum.

I though it would be cheap to do initially but because I am a picky bastard I had to have a semi custom setup. For me even just grabbing the cheapest red halon extinguisher is in the $175 range. All said and done I'm looking at right around $300. The price we pay for safety huh?

The trouble with any of those roll bar mounts, is you've gotta mount the FE so far away, it'll take to much time to get toit-

You have a point there boss. I just want it out of the way. I'm sure I can get to it fast enough. I've knocked down a fully involved kitchen fire with a 2.5 gallon water extinguisher. It's how efficiently you use it that really matters.
Can you post a pic of your set up?

Good spot brother. Unfortunately since I have the Tuffy Security drawer underneath my drivers seat and an Amp for my stereo underneath my passenger seat, I can't have them there. Thank you for the suggestion though. That is a very good place for them.

I agree with Jim on the placement but I stow a lot of crap there including my s&w 460. Imagine my embarrassment when I forgot to remove it when I went on base last week for some work. The inspectors were cool about it because I remembered it right before they found it and didn't give me too much static. Held her at the gate while I was doing my business on base. Turns out that dudes boss owns one as well and talked my ear off when I picked it up.

The duct tape is a great idea but you gotta get the good kind.

As for the extinguisher I am mounting mine on the rear bar as well. It takes a little longer to get to it but I am not overly concerned. I have timed it and while I know seconds matter I'm not changing my mind. I actually go through the rear side door and due to location I suggest a quick release mount. Pull one pin and go. The velcro mounts and multi-strap mounts could hang you up. With a quick pin pull I don't even need to go to the rear of the jeep to get it. That helps when the location is where it is.

I have the drake off road mount. It's sold on Qtec but I got it elsewhere for better shipping. I currently have it mounted to the bar with band clamps. No pics right now. Don't take many. Too busy installing. I need a damn photographer for my installs. I am going to change how the mount is attached with the clamps you first posted. I saw those when I was buying a pullpal and thought they were cool but had no need for them. That mount will adapt to the drake mount well I think and be a bit more complete looking. I also am running a black halguard 2.5. I have a rule. Mods can be any color as long as they are black.

Here be the mount. I have been pleased with drake off roads parts.

Come up here and you don't need no stinking permit. On second thought I think the permit is cheaper. Good thing you don't live in Cali. Half my guns are illegal there, if not more.

ColdSRT, don't say that too loudly, CA might realize they missed something

That actually was a big complaint when my ship changed homeports from VA to CA earlier this year.

I know what you mean. I'm kind of a gun nut. I enjoy the crap out of Cali but their gun laws are freaking insane. I enjoy modding my guns like my jeeps but I also have more than a few factory weapons that are illegal there. I am 100% legal with mine here but we also have common sense laws. When I say they will have to take them from my cold dead hands I mean it.

Did you ever do this mounting combo? If so, any pictures or a little more description on what you were going to do? I'm not totally following you but it sounds like you're looking to mount the extinguisher mount using a better method then just some hose clamps...

Also, this post is a few months old now... How do you like that extinguisher mount? Hopefully you've had no reason to really use it but just in general driving any issues or complaints? Anything you wish was different about it?

Thanks

I changed up my plan a bit. I did not like how far it would stick out when using the mount I have in combination with a rollbar mount. Waiting for parts and other mods pushed this mod back a bit and it remains unfinished.

The plan is finalized but I have a few mods that all are going to require the top to be removed and I would like to do it in one shot if I can.

I decided not to mount to the rollbar. I had purchased a set of rear cargo panels from kilby enterprises so I decided to mount the extinguisher to one of those panels. These panels are bolted on where the hardtop bolts up to the tub using the same bolts. They just square off the wheelhouse humps. Once those are in I just have to pop two holes in the panel and bolt up the extinguisher.

I have the mount all squared away like I want it. I used stainless band clamps to secure the extinguisher to the mount. One thing I discovered was that when the two pieces of the mount are put together I could make them rattle. That is not cool with me. It is a tiny rattle but I wanted it silent. The tolerances were real tight so there is not much room to add anything to stop the rattle but still loose enough to rattle. The easy fix was to put one layer of electrical tape around the upper piece where it meets the lower piece. No more rattle and you can't see it when it's on. Adds a little more friction for pulling the pieces apart but not enough to hinder the operation. I will get pics up when I get it finalized but here is what the mount and extinguisher looks like.

Edit- I also used some rubber to keep the band clamps from slipping and from marring the can. Turns out a cut up flat rubber bungee worked perfect with the clamps.

Just curious... Did you ever get this thing up and going in your rig with the different attack plan? If so, how did it all work out for you?

For the rattle... We have those pieces pretty close like you said, basically much closer and the function was starting to get a little questionable and the last thing you want is an issue when you're probably already a bit freaked out if you're grabbing for a fire extinguisher. What I found on mine actually was I pushed a little piece of rubber hose into the groove which solved the rattle. From a function stand point it works great and there's many other ways to address it but we didn't want to release it with any chance of something to solve a rattle issue possibly hindering the function of what's possibly a VERY important piece if that makes sense?

I carry mine in the well beside each front seat, fits in there perfectly, and I can get to em as soon as I open my door, if need be.

I did finish the project. The mount does have a bit of a rattle at times. The tape fix fails over time. I'm gonna try something else but it's really not bad enough to bother me. I will post some pics a little later today.

Sorry to dig up this thread but I just installed this mount on my roll bar and the rattle is obnoxious!!!! What did you guys use as a final solution? And for the hose inserted in to the bracket, did you just cut a small piece and hope it stays?
Thanks

I had one similar to the second one in my Cobra. It was a pain in the ass to open at times, and thank god I never needed it in a hurry. Looks nice, but not practical in my opinion.
