Did i get srewed out of my Rubicon rock rails?

Purchased a JKUR that did not come with factory steps. I'm assuming that it comes with rock rails, right?

Now I am reading that you can not instal both the factory steps and the Rubi rock rails. Is this correct?

So, did they do this instal and not tell me they took the rock rails off? If so do you think I could get them back? I would rather the rock rails. I've had the jeep for 7 months.

The base sport model does not come with any rails or side steps.

Could you be a little less clear? Did you buy a Rubicon and ask them to put the plastic steps on and now, 7 months later you want to know what happened to your rock rails? Even if you could put steps on with the rock rails, why would you?

Correct. That is what happened. I never knew they took off the rails. I guess I still don't know for sure, that is what I'm asking. They HAD to take them off, right?

Well that sucks. I wish they had told me that, and given them to me. I doubt I will be able to get them back now.

I'm sure someone at the dealership took them home or sold them online. If you would have told them you wanted them I am sure they would have gave them to you.

I didn't even notice, I read that you can't have both. It's my first jeep, didn't know what they looked like.

So then don't worry about it. You were perfectly happy before you knew. If you asked for the steps, then you should have asked or checked. It has nothing to do with it being your first Jeep and everything to do with some common sense. Next time, ask questions.

He is right.
The devil is in the details.

Don't feel bad though, some people make sure all that stuff is there and then change it all anyway!
If you want rails and steps, sell your steps and buy a set of take-off Rubi rails and a set of Ace Engineering rock rails. That is a great looking combo that works well as both.
The other way to go would be another brand of aftermarket rails that suits your needs.

At 7 months out you are truly stuck with devising your own solution though.

dude you guys are not being fair. Did you pay extra for the steps? If so they should have given you the rock rails as you paid for them with the rubicon package! If it's on your build sheet and you didnt ask them to be thrown away and you paid for the steps then you should have been given your rails. I would bring it up with the dealer.

Agreed! Yes, a good number of people know that u can't have both on a rubi, however a first time Wrangler owner would not. A couple people have stated the OP should have asked questions. This is a fair point....however, u can't ask a question in this case, if u have ZERO knowledge about the rock rails needing to come off for steps. This is in the dealer. They know! The OP says, "I'd like steps put on." The Dealer then should say, "We can do it, but we have to remove your rock rails. Do u want to keep those for the future, or should we take care of them for u" lol
The dealer is supposed to inform their customer of something like this. Research and questions are good, but this was just either stupid or shady on the dealer's part.

Doesn't matter if it's 1 day, 1 wk, or 7 mo, they owe you a set of rock rails. You paid extra for the steps, rock rails came as standard equipment so you bought it, they're yours!
Being a 1st time JK owner myself, unless I researched it or someone else informed me, at 1st glance, I would have thought the steps mounted over the rocks rails so it's not a fair statement to say he should have known. Only experience tells you things like that as would other aspects of a vehicle...

Tkalagher, you can contact the dealer all you want. They are not going to do anything for you. Every dealer does the same thing. They don't have to tell you that they are going to take anything off of your vehicle to add somethng else that you requested. They take those parts off and either an employee takes them or they sell them through the parts department. I can tell you that it is extremely unlikely that they will do anything for you other than to give you a free oil change or some crap like that, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I was a salesman for 8 years and that happened everyday. I'm sorry that it happened to you, but hopefully this experience will help you in the future. Remember to pay close attention and know what you are buying and what you could potentially be giving up when you ask for something.

Common sense tells me they mount in the same place just by looking at them. If this happended a week ago he could go back, but 7 months? Really? How do you buy any vehicle without knowing something about it? I can see not understanding the Rock Trac transfer case, but it's easy to see that a Rubicon has rock rails and the Sport does not. You can see that the Sahara has the plastic steps, but does not have rock rails. These are all next to each other on the dealer lot. That is more than enough information to ask the question as to whether or not the parts would co-exist.

However, the real issue in my mind is that 7 months have past.

While I think the biggest mistake new Wrangler owners seem to make is not doing their homework....it is still shady on the dealers part to not even "mention" it. Ace sliders mount over Rubi rock rails...so some people might not know any better....or even notice the Rubi rock rails to begin with.

Since you paid for the steps then you should have definately gotten the rock rails back. I did the same thing but didn't pay for the side steps. The dealer saved them and gave them to me. If they weren't up front I would have asked for them anyway. Either get rock rails back or get some type of credit out of them.

And embarrass himself because it took him 7 months to notice? He'll get much further with a polite tactful negotiation.

Be nice, take your build sheet and go talk to the GSM at the dealer. They want your business now and in the future. If you cant get any joy with the GSM, setup an appointment with the dealer principal and bring it to his attention. You'll get your Rubi rails, but if you get pissy with them it'll be an up hill battle. Good luck

The dealership should have given them to you no matter what. This is how some get their names as "Stealerships". I too ordered a Rubicon, I think that off of the delivery truck they are not installed, but instead inside the vehicle and put on during the delivery checklist. I ordered the Sahara side steps because I've had steel ones in the past and they rust. My dealership gave me my Rails without me asking and the package of bolts were not even opened yet. Good luck i'm sure they'll order you a new set or steal them off of another vehicle for you...
